Remington rimfire .22 cal Rifle problems....extractor?

Got a problem with my bolt action .22 rim not extracting fired cases out of chamber...any advice?   Gun is kept clean and haven't had problems with it before....help!!

If the chamber's not rusted and the extractor still has it's hook, try checking the edge of the chamber where the firing pin impacts and see if there might be a burr.  Dry firing can sometimes raise a burr on the chamber edge that can overcome the extractors grip.  It may help to know the model of he rifle in question also...  You might also check the recess in the breech face for the extractor to clear and be certain it has not become filled with gunk(note the technical term!!).

OK I took a second look at the rifle and sure enough there is a very slight burr on the lip of the throat....now what? I'm sure some tedious work with a emery cloth is in order but can you recommend a method and proper tools for this "rookie"....thanks in advance.
Also can you tell me anyhthing about this model 582...its my trapline gun and is a good shooter..at least it WAS.   Mike

I assume you mean the burr is on the chamber mouth.  Turn a piece of drill rod round (diameter of the chamber) with a flat on one side. The diameter must be close enough the turned portion will not enter the chamber.  File a on the rod.  This is the clearance to allow the rod end to enter the chamber.  The rod is then hardened and tempered a bit.  To use insert into the chamber with the flat under the burr and rotate the rod.  This will iron out the burr and burnish the chamber smoothly.  Save this tool as this is a common problem and easily fixed, if you have the iron!!
