Recoil pad on a Puma

Has anyone put a aftermarket recoil pad on their puma 92?  I've got a stainless 44mag and I'm thinking about it.  I like the looks of the steel buttplate, but I don't really care for the feel of it with heavy loads.  I've just been kicking around the idea of putting on a better recoil pad or a slip over recoil pad even though I don't like the loose fit of a slip over recoil pad.

Any suggestions?

Depends!  Depends on whether you want to use it or just look at it.  If you want to truly use it, do it.  Sling swivels might not be a bad idea either.

I plan on doing this so I can actually hunt & practice with it more.  You make a good point though about the sling swivels, but I usually just hand carry the little rifle around anyway.

...and what do you do with it while dragging your deer to the road, climbing into a stand or crossing a fence?  Both Uncle Mikes and Williams have swivels that clamp onto the feed tube.

Where I hunt with it I just carry it by hand.  I haven't ever taken anything with it yet, but I have one of the slings that attaches by loops that snug up.  I can't imagine that rifle ever becoming something that's a burden to carry.  I don't want to modify the rifle or start drilling holes.  I measured the buttplate of the rifle the other day and it seemed like the limbsaver small slip on recoil pad would be a good fit for it.

Cabelas sells one that is leather, is tied on, and has this gel cell built into it.  I use one on my Buffalo Classic.  Looks real "period".  I would not hesitate to put one on my Puma 92 (but I don't need it with 45 colt).

I ordered another stock to fit the 454 to mount on my 44 mag.  Factory stock and with recoil pad mounted.  Set me back 75.00.  DP

That's the best idea I've heard so far.  The slip on recoil pad I got is so loose it's rediculous!  It should be a tighter fit but it's not.
