The metal piece just behind the ejection port is missing. When the went boom the piece was blown off and couldn't be found.

Sounds like you lost your extractor.  Except for improper re-assembly, I can't imagine how that could shake loose.  That being the case, it should be an easy fix, presuming that none of the other spring loaded components tore anything else/themselves up.  That's the good news.

The bad news...I thought that all of you canooks had been saved by surrendering your handguns.  :P  :)  :P   Short of sending the slide back to the factory, and can't make any recommendations.  But, I really would consider sending it to the factory just for the peace of mind...in case something else got screwed up.  I don't know what your shipping regulations up yonder are, but I was able to send a slide back for sight replacement once with no problems.

Thanks for your input Mainspring, I'll check into getting it to the factory asap.

So far it's just us law abiding gun owners that have been saved. The bad guys haven't been targeted yet.

Thanks again

   Hello, Bearfighter!  Sadly, it sounds like Mainspring is right:  You've blown the extractor claw off the pistol - strange, very strange - unless ... the slide was, previously, taken apart and the extractor spring rod was re:inserted BACKWARDS into the slide.  Really, my friend; it's got'a be because this is, just, too odd.

GLOCK has one of the best designed extractor setups on any modern pistol; this is one part that, left to itself, will never break!  Let me suggest the following to help you get this pistol back into service with the least amount of hassle:

You can find excellent slide assembly/disassembly pictures at  www.alpharubicon.com/mrpoyz/glock   In the alternative you may, also, see decent quality, assembly/disassembly, photo displays at, either, www.Glockmeister.com or, www.Topglock.com

After you see what's involved, (And it, really, is easy!) contact:  Glockmeister Sales, Topglock Sales, or (my personal favorite) Lone Wolf Distributors to pick up a complete extractor assembly:  claw, rod, and spring.  You might, also, want to get one of those neat factory armorer's tools.  (It's, just, a fancy 3/32's punch.)

Lone Wolf, also, sells an excellent GLOCK, 'Maintenance Manual' CD  for your computer.  One of the great joys of owning a GLOCK pistol is the ability to fix, almost, anything by yourself and at minimum cost, as well.

This should allow you to keep your GLOCK at home to be repaired.  I'm sorry you had a problem; but, look at the bright side, from now on you'll be a lot more familiar with your pistol - You can do it, hombre!   :D   Good Luck, 'AA'
