What is the draw on 7-30 walters? I see lots of fellows looking to buy and was wondering why it seems to be in much demand. Just wanting to know for my own info. I know someone will have the answer, lots of good info on this web site.

The 7-30 Waters is a perfect Contender cartridge, capable of excellent accuracy and powder, all the while low on pressure.

Cases can be effortlessly made from inexpensive 30-30 Winchester brass, and there are tons of 284 caliber bullets available.

If I bought a new G2, I would choose the 7-30 Waters in the pistol or rifle format.

The loads can be great for children and women also, in the lighter Contender, that some smaller people desire.

I have a 7 30 in a pistol 15" and a rifle in 23" like yooper said it is a great round. I am using 120 triple shock barnes bullets in mine haven't tried it on a deer yet but it's coming. I'm using varget powder with cci primmers and remington brass. If you get one you will love it. I have shot my pistol out to 200 yrds off a bench it will hold a very good group. I like mine MOD (min of deer).

Mild recoil, excellent accuracy and highly effective at putting deer down. That's why it's so popular.

I have a friend that is really big into these T/C handguns.  His first barrel was the 7x30 Waters.  He has played with tons of calibers since, and he always returns to his 7x30 for deer hunting.  That thing is a tack driver with little recoil.

I have 7x30 waters in 14" Contender and in 94 Winchester.  It is a very versatile cartridge with minimal recoil.  My favorite bullets are the Nosler Ballistic tips.  120s for varmints and 150s for deer, etc.  I would not be afraid to take my 7x30 Contender hunting for about anything in the U.S. with exception of the bigger bears.

My Contender barrel has Magna-Ports to tame recoil and is topped with a Leupold 2x scope.  My 120 grain BT load will keep all shots inside a halfscale chicken at 200 meters off the bench, or in creedmore position, if I do my part.  This chicken is about the size of the palm of an average adults hand.  Not bad since the cross hairs in the scope almost cover up the chicken.

If I had to get rid of some of my contender barrels, my Herretts, .30-30s, 7TCUs etc would be gone long before my 7x30.  Brass is easy to make, it is easy to reload, and it get's the job done.

Ken Waters (thats not Walters) got it correct. In a carbine a 7-30 Waters will do anything a 7-08 will do in a pistol. I have had three Waters TC barrels and all were excellent shooters. Using the 23" bull carbine next weekend for my antelope....it is the perfect antelope carbine.

Very well said. I could not have said it better.

Several years ago I used a 10" Bull Barrel Contender in 7-30 Waters to take 4 Whitetails in a single season. All were one shot kills using 120gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip Bullets. One of which was a decent 4x4 Buck that turned out to be a whole lot farther away than I thought at the time of the shot.

This year I am going to be hunting Whitetails with a 14" 7-30 Waters for the first time ever. I am again loading 120gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with H-4895 in reformed Remington Brass with CCI BR2 Primers. This load will consistantly put 3 rounds into 1" or less at 100 yards from the bench at an average muzzle velocity of 2436 FPS.

About a month ago we had our Shooters Club's Annual Sight in Day, Fun Shoot. We had targets set up out to 200 yards and steel silhouettes out to 300 yards. We had a Ram Silhouette at 300 yards (all the distance we could get at this range). I had several shooters that have never ever shot a Contender Handgun before consistantly hit the Ram Silhouette at 300 yards either from the bench or from crossed shooting sticks. In fact I don't remember exactly but I believe about 50 rounds were shot at the 300 Yard Ram Silhouette that day and it was missed twice.

I too think the 7039 Waters provides to a good balance of Ballistic Performance vs Pressure / Case Head Thrust for the Contender Platform. It is also a very easy cartridge to load for, and in the Barrels I have had has produced good accuracy.

I've been "fooling" with a bunch of rifles and handguns this summer. So a few weeks ago, I brought along the 7-30 just to shoot while the barrel of the gun I was testing loads in could cool down in between shots. I don't know why I didn't take that barrel out sooner as I had forgotten how much fun and how accurate it is to shoot that 7-30. Nice mild recoil and the bullet just goes where you place the crosshairs.

Been away for awhile but love reading about 7x30 waters caliber. Have had a ton of them and killed tons of whitetail, javelina, mulies and even an elk here in Arizona. Granted it was only a cow but she didn't go 50 yards after the hit in the boiler room.

In the break open action the 7X30 waters does not exceed presure limits and has a RIM which is better in a contender type action for both extraction and a bit of forgivness in OAL of case IE a tad short will still work ( yes it is hard on brass ).
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
