Won't stay sited in?
« on: September 04, 2008, 11:18:50 AM »
My rifles won't stay sited in more than a month or two?

Realized today after tinkering with my rifles that none of my scopes are sited in.
I have gotten two barrels one scope and a set of rings since my last range sesion.
After swaping and trading the scopes and rings around they are all bore sited at best.

Anybody else have this problem?

If you are getting good groups I would doubt that it is the scopes. My first guess would be that the pressure point on the barrel are changing over time due to the stocks gaining or loosing moisture. The fix would be to float the barrels and bed the actions.

Errr it sounds like your swopping them around and not sighting in again?

Bore sighted means that you should be at least on a dinner plate with your shots but that's far from sighted in  :(. You also mention barrels? is this a switch barrel gun perhaps a Handi?

I am definitly the problem. I just can't stop tinkering with my guns.
My bore sited guns will usually hit paper at 100yd.

Just thought it was FUNNY that I have 7 rifles and the only one sited it is my 30/30 because it has iron sites.

Do any of you tinker more than shoot like me? ;)

Err guilty as charged  :-[ I think only about 3 or 4 of my rifles are sighted in. I have been moving scopes as I acquire better period optics add to that I was trying some new loads and others need sighting in with proven huntign loads  :-[.

Sounds to me like you need less tinker time and more range time , so get your butt of the tractor and start shooting . But ya guilty as charged , my goto Handi's , the .223 Red Monster and the .243 SL are always sited in , they just shoot to well to tinker with .

The others , Who knows .  ???

That's another problem I have a lot.
Rifles that are dead on for a round/load I am out of.

I would love more range time. Not this weekend though.
