Hi
What a hunt!! We went from winter to summer no spring. It was hot, very hot but I loved every moment. I hunted from Thursday to yesterday. The grass was dry which made the stalking more difficult.
Thursday I took shot at a very nice Impala. We were slowly walking on some spoor. The tracker suddenly stopped and I nearly bumped into him. The impala were standing about 80 meters away, feeding under a couple thorn trees. We slowly set up the shooting sticks. I took aim at a good ram, but had to wait because there was another one behind him. It gave me some time to calm down. After a couple of seconds the front one gave a couple of steps and was clear. I put the cross just behind the shoulder and half way up the chest. At the shot it gave an enormous jump. I could not believe my eyes. I was sure of the shot. After making sure there is no blood anywhere we checked the spot again where he stood, about 5 meters in front of him was a thin branch hanging by a piece of bark. About 10 inches to his front I found the hole in a tree trunk.
Friday afternoon I shot me warthog
It was about 3:30. We started walking at 2. I just said to the tracker it is dead. Too hot, no birds singing, nothing, when I saw movement between some bushes. It was a warthog walking from our right to our left. I asked the tracker how big the warthog was because I couldn't see any tusks. He said big but with the sticks. Ready to shoot. As the warthog walked into a clearing the tracker gave a soft whistle. He stopped and I shot him on the last rib on left hand side. I cut the bullet out under the skin on the right hand shoulder. He ran about 25 meters before going down. When we got closer we saw the left hand tusk broke off years ago and that is why we couldn’t see anything.
I used 155gr Lapua Mega bullets at 2460fps. Perfect performance - no blood shot meat.
Cheers
Sweet
