Anyone using the Nikon Omega 250 BDC muzzleloading scope?
« on: September 09, 2008, 09:51:50 AM »
I've been interested in the new Nikon Omega scope that has the distances marked off out to 250 yards for a muzzloader.  I don't think I'll ever have a shot that far, I just ordered one today just in case.  I've read a lot of great reviews so I went ahead and bought one.

I'm really looking forward to trying this new scope out and getting my gun dialed in.  I don't have an Omega, but I have a 26" Encore 209x50.  I don't really mind if the scope isn't made to match my gun, I'll know where it hits at the different distances just the same.

Anyone else using this scope?

I had a couple of them that I used last year.  Alas, I never had a shot over 100 yds.  I love the size of the scope (almost perfect for a 40mm scope) and with 5" of eye relief, you're not going to get a scope cut unless you try to.  Glass was great too, all in all, I think that for under $250, it's hard to beat it.

I didn't care for the circles, they seemed to clutter the FOV a bit more than I liked.  I also hardly ever used them, I'm too used to sighting in a couple of inches high to compensate for longer range.  I like the Burris Ballistic plex with it's dashes better than the circles, but that's just me.

I think that the Omega with the regular x-hair would be my choice for a 3-9x40 scope that would be on any rifle with decent recoil, until you get into the dangerous game calibers.

For whatever reason I've been a really big fan of nikon scopes lately.  I like them more than I do a Leupold.  The Nikons have good glass, click adjustments, and hold zero for less than a Leupold and they can also adjust the zoom without needing a wrench.

I agree about the circles.  I really wish they would have made some dashes or dots.  As long as there is some kind of object on the reticle I'll be able to figure out where it hits.  I'm not going to get out to 250 yards with this gun either.  200 yards would be my tops.

*Update*

I bought the scope and it makes shooting out to 200 yards a simple task.  I was amazed at how easy it was to shoot great hunting groups at 200 yards with.  This scope is great and I'm glad I bought it.

I bought one aboout 2 yrs ago to put on my Encore. Prolly one of the best best investments in optics I made yet!
I especially like the long eye relief. So far my farthest shot has been 137yds.....
