7mm-08 light bullets 1/9
« on: September 10, 2008, 09:37:36 AM »
Did some ladder load testing w/ 162 A-max and 120 V-max bullets for 7mm-08.  This is a 1/9 twist barrel at 20.5 inches.  The 162's grouped in 3 areas and I loaded them up and all shot under an inch.  The lowest powder charge of the three (IMR 4064) shot half inch 7 shot group.  No problem.  The 120's didn't group at all in the ladder test and chose 2 test loads and they were 3 inches and 5 inches.  Any suggestions on this bullet?  To small for this barrel twist and forget it or should I try another powder in a ladder load?  I have IMR 4350 and H4350.  Would small for twist be more accurate at lower velocities or near max - make any difference.  If it will not group in ladder load testing just forget it?  Thanks.

The 120`s are alittle lite for that twist, but still should work with the right load. You might try slower loads, but other than that, just keep playing with different powders. One other thing you might try is seating your bullet out as far as you can for less bullet jump.

I will give the other powders a try.  Just wanted to confirm I wasn't wasting my time.  I still have 150 + of these bullets and will try and get them to work.  I'm already .005 off the lands right now.  Anyway accuracy could be better farther off the lands?
