Well, I haven't hunted much. My scenario is...I have been interested in hunting for 22 years (since high school). But, I grew up in an area where no one hunted. So, I bought a rifle at the age of 18 and started reading magazines and books, etc. and doing a lot of shooting. I went to college in TX and met some people who hunted, but was last on the list during deer season for any invite. Did a lot of squirrel hunting there before deer season, but then...family came first for deer, which I totally understood. So, since then, I've been doing guided hunts about every 4 or 5 years since then. I've shot hogs and exotics, but no whitetail. I started looking at public land hunts this year and told myself that I am just going to do it. Also, I have the opportunity to join 2 leases next year in N. Florida. I'll do one of the 2 when the time comes. I've been trying to meet hunters in the area and gain some experience so I can teach my 2 sons when they become of age. I'd like to give them the opportunities in the outdoors that I didn't have growing up.

What kind of hunting do you do and where?

I am the forth generation from here in Sarasota.All fishermen and Dad is a local guide here for over 40 years. Thats how I got my name sonofafish. I have hunted all my live, with my grandfather and Dad mostly on private land but all that around here has been sold off. So for the past 10 years I have been hunt'n on public land.Green swamp and richloam witch is not to far from here. Cant wait for it to start.I do a lot for the my kids and do the best in showing them the great outdoors. I had them all hunting and shooting by the time they could walk. My middle daughter took First place in state match for 4H. I am the shooting instructor.It all pays off just to the smiles.

I missed the application deadline for the quota hunts, so I'll try to find a decent place after the quota, even though crowds will probably be higher. This will be a learning experience for me.

I apply for my quota permits online. It only takes a few seconds and you have it instantly. I hunt Eglin & Blackwater. Neither are very good. I wish I could get into some good hog hunting.

Mims, (East Central) FL here boys where the hogs are habitual; does, squirrels, coons, turkeys and acorn dropping trees are plentiful; and bucks hard as heck to find. I try to entice them all with food plots and sling feeders 24/7/365 onto my 20 acres.

Five semi-permanent metal tree stands overlook the majority of the only food plots (3 acres) for 20,000-plus acres in the vicinity. What a wildlife pump.

Polk County, Florida here. In the Green Swamp. Hunt on my employers property East of Lakeland for hogs and turkey. I belong to a private lease just 5 miles North of me which is exclusively deer. I have a game cam pic of a nice 8 point with a couple of kickers with a 4 point standing behind him last Saturday on my archery stand/feeder. So guess where I'll be on the 20th?

Hunting mostly public land down here and the hunting isnt all that great .

I live in Merritt Island and hunt Mims for deer/hogs; MINWR (Mosquito Lagoon) and Lk Poincett for ducks.

deerchaser, we got us a Top-O-County / Bottom-O-County line up for the comparison of notes. For everyone else, Brevard is approxijmately 90 miles in length lying north to south.

Through the middle of Brevard County is situated one of the most interesting and challenging weather patterns in the US. There is no "prevailing wind". The distribution of wind is equal in every quadrant of the compass.

So every day, those hunting in the middle have to line up in a different direction to hunt the wind. Not until you move further north or south (Volusia County north of Mims to Indian River county south of Palm Bay) does the wind begins to follow and take on a predominant direction.

I suppose it is this lack of prevailing wind and a more swirling wind pattern that created and keeps depositing soils on the true Cape of Florida situated on the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Regardless, the wind makes for an interesting deer and duck chasing situation and challenge.

I live in Dade during the week due to work and spend the weekends in Collier.

I see, you get the best of both worlds...and they are different worlds. I live in Naples. I'm working on a few things for, somewhat local, deer hunting this fall on a lease. I do have a place for hogs on occasion on a tomato farm in Immokalee. Also, I may go to the Brady ranch this spring for an exotic doe hunt for some great meat (not sure yet). PM me and let me know if you might be interested in any of those and I'll go into detail more. I would like to try a public land hunt as that would improve the chances of me hunting more often. I have never done that before though.

Just havent decided where due to lack of scouting new areas and not much free time to get out there.

Not sure yet. I've never hunted public land before and haven't been on any to look around. I'll probably apply for Cecil Webb and if I get a permit, head out and look around. I know that property a little from shooting at that range and just driving the public roads.

Otherwise, I may start calling outfitters in GA, AL and N. FL to see what they have to offer on a 3 day hunt or something.

Applied this year, finally. Got Turner River Unit of Big Cypress for general gun, Crew for muzzleloader hog and Dinner Island hog hunt. I'll probably continue on in Big Cypress after the permit period if I can find a decent place.

Again, first time for public land. Hope all goes well. Never been in these places before so I'll have to take some time to look around between now and then.

Good , got your quota permit.
Water's up and will be higher by the time bow opens up.
I rode the buggy last week , did a 10 mile loop, seen 2 bucks and 6 does.
By the way the skeeters are out in full force .......damn it if they didnt drive me insane.
