Rumor Mill - MAJOR gas price hike RAT NOW!
« on: September 11, 2008, 11:12:19 AM »
Matt is in Oxford doing some electronics work for some folks who also run a gas station. Their distributor called them and said they had 20 minutes to come pay for any gas they want at current prices. After that there will be a $1.90 a gallon price hike.

Why I dunno unless Ike just wiped out a major refinery or someone knows Bush is about to push a button he should not be pushing.

I do not know if the rumor is truth or not but supposedly according to Matt it came from the local gas distributor directly to the gas station owned by his friends where he is working rat now. I took my new Sequoia and filled it to the top. It took 9.87 gallons and that was all it would hold there was no room in there for 10 gallons.

I asked there and they were not yet aware of an impending increase but said they don't go up until a truck makes their delivery and that has not happened today. One guy in there said a station he had just bought gas at had gone up twenty cents since yesterday.

Fellows and gals if this proves true the ride is about to get real bumpy.

I can believe it, just saw where they have shut down 3 or 4 refineries in Texas ahead of Ike hitting, and while oil prices dropped a little gas price will rise due to losing the refining capacity, and our stock pile of gas was already low. Just pray Ike don't tear up the refineries to where it would be weeks or more to get them going again! As G.B. says, the ride is about to get real bumpy.

I was standing there when the rep said that by Sat gas will be over $5 and the increase was going to be .20 then .50 today so that is a total of .70 in less than 12 hours then first thing tomorrow we will see another .50 and then .70 for a total of 1.90 in 36 hours. If Ike hits as they think then by monday we will see 5.50 per gallon. The friends of mine are not slated for any more fuel till after tuesday and that was a big if and dependant on Ike.

I called several of the stores that I handle Video Security for and all said they are now limiting customers to $20.00 at a time.

Hold on folks this is about to get rough...

Just what we need , One last good SHAFTING before summer is over , I have spent the better part of 20 years working Refineries and their is no way that this is anything more than another way for BIG OIL to pad their pockets .

When you consider that over 75% of the finished product from these plants are shipped out of the country , why do we have to pay the exorbitant prices .

Can't wait for the spin from both parties on this one .  >:(

I worked for a big oil distribtor here in TN once upon a time. Talked to one of my past co-workers a few minuets ago. He said that
there would be a "significant bump" in gas prices for a "while" due to Ike.
No details on what "significant bump", and a "while" may mean.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure if it happens down there it will work it's way up here. We are only 900 miles from Houston.

I ran down and filled up the diesel pickup. It was ONLY $247. Diesel is $4.399. Hate to think how high it may get if the refinerys get heavy damage. I'll fill the car this morning as I have business in town.

Well, here on the left coast, we shouldn't be bothered, but I think I'll go fill up anyway.  I'm thinking if they raise the price more than a few cents there might be a riot.  I wouldn't want to be working in a gas station.

I thought I heard a couple days ago that Ike was not supposed to make a significant impact on fuel prices. So much for that.

It does demonstrate however why we need more refineries in other parts of the nation.
Just another worthless opinion!!

The US Government needs to nationalize the refineries.  Big oil is price fixing no doubt about it.  I'm tired of defending them.  They suck!

Today around 11am prices jumped to between $4.23 - $4.65 at most chain stores and $4.85 at the smaller mom and pop stores that still have fuel to sell. Most all radio stations here announced at noon today to "FILL UP NOW" and are talking shortages... I think here we are about to see a run on the pumps and a true shortage of fuel for the area.

Make sure you buy some gas.  All the stations are out of gas around here.  They said it would be 3 to 4 days at least before they get any more.

Here in Ft. Worth i filled up Monday for $3.34, today i filled up for $3.49
they are saying here that it is not necessarily because of refinery damage
but the fact they have to shut them down for they don't know how long
the refinery's in the Houston area supply 25-30% of the gasoline to the U.S.
and are most always running at full capacity, if they are shut down for a week
gas will really get expensive. They say that when Ike comes ashore Galveston
Island will completely submerged. They are comparing Ike to the storm of 1900
where 800-1000 people were killed in Galveston, saying it is bigger than Katrina.

Well I am not sure why it changed up here, but gas is now 3.99 here in Ohio where I live. It was 3.54 Tuesday, and 3.74 when I filled up last night.... I really think we need to quit shipping gas out of the country...

Maybe it has not reached SW Pa yet but I am happy to report that gas here has been holding steady at $3.57 a gallon for about a week now. Who would have ever thought I would be happy to report that. Dale

This is just another way for the oil companies to cover their record profits , as they will loose sales to other countries till this thing passes .

That and it gives the ones pushing for more off shore drilling a reason to say " See we need this " . Don't take me wrong , we HAVE to use more of our own oil to keep this country running and QUIT sending it overseas .

We also MUST look at Alt. Power for a way out of this mess !

My wife and I drove to Roanoke Virginia today for a Greek festival.  We passed a BP in Rocky Mount, Virginia, and I saw that diesel was $3.85 a gallon (we were in our diesel Passat).  I told my wife I was going to stop, but she was starving for good Greek cooking, so we went on.  I reminded of when we were in Nova Scotia, right after Katrina hit New Orleans.  We drove around the north side of Cape Breton Island, and the fuel prices were about 25 cents higher by the time we got back to where we were staying.  Sure enough, when we came back by the station, diesel was up to $3.99.  Of  course, this was still cheap compared to a station we passed in Martinsville, where diesel was $4.65 at 10am.

We were watching the evening news and we got off really easy.  Some of the stations in Roanoke were up to over $5 for some grades of gasoline.  There were lines at service stations in all the areas we were in.

My impression is that drivers in this area are bending over and yelling, "My billfold is in my hip pocket!", over their shoulders and the oil companies are helping out by sticking it to them.  As for me, I can sit home for a few days, until fuel prices come back down.  As for the Passat, it does not need to see another fuel pump for about 800 miles, so we can ride this out.

Interesting summation and one that I fully expect to see take place locally as well.  I think people are finally fed up and are presently weighing the last straw.  I had thoughts of investing in some convenience stores some years back and I'm now glad I didn't.

Today gas is $4.00 a gallon at that same station that said they never go up except when a new shipment arrives. No shipment has arrived and none will until Tuesday locally. Most stations are out now and the prices are out of sight at those that still have it. Lines are long.

Long lines in some areas, some have a $20 limit, others a 10 gallon limit. Yestersay it was $3.52, today it's $4.00, up 48 cents. In Lou it's well over $4. Diesel I noticed tonight was $4.20. HEH, I'm on vacation after tomorrow for 9 days and can't afford to go anywhere, bummer. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hello everyone. I live in central Georgia and the price of gas Thursday morning was 3.58 all over town. Today Friday evening after work it had jumped to 4.39. It has gotten to where an average working man can't afford to live comfortable.Seems everytime things start to change for the better or at least level off, someone or something pokes a stick in it and makes a bigger stink than before. The local stations all say gas will be 5 bucks by Monday.

That just makes me sick to my stomach. At $3.99 a gallon it costs me like $120.00 now to fill up. When I work in Pittsburgh I go through a tank and a half or two tanks a week. Dale
