  Here's the rundown: 38 special is .358 and will fit a .357 Magnum but, under no circumstances should you shoot a .357 Magnum in a 38 pistol(too much pressure). 

So, you can use lighter 38s in a .357, just not the other way around.

What they said and you need to watch for build up in the chamber when you go back to 357. Other wise no problem.
