How critical is the grain weight of arrowhead
« on: September 13, 2008, 04:47:01 AM »
I recently purchased some mechanical arrow heads for my C5 wildcat of 100 grains. The owners manual calls for 125 grain. How critical is the grain weight for accuracy.

I would guess that having weight forward of center on a bolt would be just as important as on an arrow, for stability in flight. Secondly adding mass to the projectile will undoubtedly increase penetration. I have no direct experience in the matter but I think the "arrow" wouldn't know what kinda bow it was shot from.

I think it would make a lot of difference on accuracy and consistency in POI.  I have some 125 gr. that don't shoot worth anything in mine but the 100gr. are fine. Same for the bolt itself: mine shoots 2219s just fine but the 2216 can't get consistent. Again, weight is the key to both I think.

Your bolts will behave as if they were a stiffer shaft with the lighter heads.

100 gr 125 gr. makes no diff as long as you maintain the min weight stated by your Bow company! same goes with length of arrows! as long as you clear the arrow slot/channel and riser safely if using BH
