Target Scope: weaver T series or Nikon Buckmaster / Monarch or ?
« on: September 15, 2008, 03:51:41 PM »
Looking for experiences and feedback on a good scope for .22 rifle NRA hunter silhouette.   I would like to go with a higher power scope, currently have a 10x Simmons 44 mag.  Any thoughts on the new weaver T series, which can be had for about $430, or a Nikon Buckmaster 4x18 for $350, or the monarch series which is a little more pricey.  I also have a 6-14x Simmons prarie master that gets up to 14x, but it doesn't deliver much over the 10x and don't care for the scale they use on the turrets.

I haven't used either of those. I have a Tasco 6X20 with adjustable parallax & the Mil-Dot crosshairs on my 10/22 Ruger. I use it for two or three different matches that we have. I like it a lot. Either of those you mention are good & Nikon has some good lenses & coatings. I was amazed at the quality of the image on a Nikon Binocular I bought a while back.

Good shooting !!! Silhouette is fun.!!

Take a look at the Bushnell Elite 3200 7-21. It's a really top notch scope that is actually shorter and lighter than their 4-12 and 5-15 scopes. Midsouth Shooter's Supply sells them for $358 I believe or did at least earlier this year when I bought my last one for my Remington Model Seven Predator .17 Fireball. I really like this scope and it performs well.

Not sure about the current line of Monarch scopes. I have both an older 6.5 - 20 Monarch and several 6.5 - 20 Leupolds I use for SB & HP silhouette.

IMHO the Nikon is brighter. That being said the Nikon is heavier, has a lot less eye relief and most important has 1/8 MOA clicks which can be confusing for silo in that you will go thru a complete rotation from chickens to Rams.

No opinion on the others you mention.
