My two sons, my buddy from here (Dayton, Ohio) and his son (my Godson) get together and go with my hunting buddy who lives near Valencia, PA.
He has a cabin up among the mountain laurel in the Moshannon State Forest near the High Plateau north of I-80 between DuBois and Clearfield not too far from S.B. Elliott and Parker Dam in north/central Pennsylvania.
We tend to hunt the open areas above the pipelines and the cleared areas under the high tension lines, but I also like still-hunting through the woods as well.
There's nothing better than to have a new snowfall on the ground like we had last year. It just kept snowing a little each day giving us fresh snow which showed the night's deer activity. Of course, we also had a few mornings of 3ยบ above zero at dawn... a bit chilly. At those temps, I like to sit by the cozy fireplace and catch up on my reading.
The weather up our way has been different each year for the past 5 years I've gone up to my hunting buddy's cozy cabin... but if I'd have to choose, I'd rather have very cold weather and snow like last year than all the miserable, rainly weather we had in 2000 (fairly warm, but rainy) and 2001 (fairly COLD, but rainy) on Opening Day and during the first week of Buck Season.
Good luck to y'all during this year's Buck Season...
Strength & Honor...
