I buy gun socks and cut them to the appropriate length for the barrel.  Then I sew in a draw string for tying it closed.  I also use Warne bases with quick detachable scope rings on my rifle barrels so scopes can be easily removed and interchanged.  You can get a LOT of barrels in a gun safe when stacked in gun socks.

I have seen some barrel racks ads for contender and encore barrels that would hold up to 6 extra barrels that you could mount in a gun safe but do not recall what company was selling them, maybe someone on forum will have the answer. It may have been on ebay not sure.

I'm severely space challenged with a small Sentry 10 gun safe.  My solution was to use the open spaces in the front and back of the safe and did this project this past weekend.  Basically some scrap plywood and MDF with a slot routed for a 3/8" dowel and then spaced slightly larger than the barrel width apart.  I attached it to the back wall and door with large self tapping screws.  With minimal sanding, the dowel slides through the hinge pin hole and then is held captive in the slot.  This set up also works for Handi barrels but they just hang on the dowel instead.  Now I've got to build a rack for the pistol length barrels for the safe shelf.  Brian

I took a sheet of the thicker pegboard and secured it to the backside of the safe door.  Then using heavy pegboard hooks, covered w/plastic tubing, I've been able hang several barrels, frames and a few pistols.  You have to keep in mind that your only able to use the space between the shelves because the of the amount that the door protrudes into the safe, but it's worked out great for me.  The pegboard hooks came with spacers to allow the hooks to fit between the backside of the door and the pegboard.

There was a machined and annodized TC hanger system for safes offered years ago, but they were pricy enough that few probably ever bought them.   Can't remember who made them, although he ran the gun boards in those days and no idea if they are still availble.

Mike Sirois (OTT) patented a safe hanger system for barrels about 6-7 years ago you might check into.

Appreciate all the ideas, Im thinking about getting a friend of mine who has a machine shop to make me one out of aluminum. Will take a 3" X 36" plate and add studs (covered with tubing) spaced maybe 4" -5" apart, then attach it to the inside of my door.

Thanks Again

I am upping this because I loved the concept and followed through. I owe this thread pictures!

Searching for this topic yields few, few results. But add the keyword "hangar" and it is all too clear! but this thread is by far the best google result.

Anyways, I took a piece of 1/2" delrin and cut it to the width of my shelf standard. I flatted the ends 7/16" so they would sit flat on the shelf standard brackets. I then turned down four grooves to .37" to cradle the handi barrel pivot points and do not slide sideways.

In 8.5" of width I have 4 handi barrels hanging barrel down, with the barrels in the notches of my existing safe shelf. They are stored high and out of the way and I can access any of them without moving other rifles It frees the shelf bottom to hold my frame. (And two forends and a second stock and anything else I buy in the future for my handi!) The total cost of all this was zero, as the only materials used was a piece of delrin and two bolts.

I am upping this thread to remind other folks its here, to laud the brilliance, and to (later tonight) share my homemade iteration.

Thanks yet again, graybeard outdoors.

I envisioned something more complicated but the simpler design was too attractive not to follow through with. This design only needed parts I had laying around and took less than 2 hours to make. No overnight cure for paint or shellac, and the delrin is plenty strong to resist breaking yet plenty soft to prevent barrel marring. Just drill and tap and turn down the barrel sockets and I was done.

I made these up out of oak.  I also made up an insert for the frame that hangs on the same rack.

Ranger that is nice.  Very well done.  Did you router the slots for the dowels?  I'm going to build something similar.  Thanks for the inspiration.

The first one I did I used a dremel tool.  I sent my dad the measurements for a second one and I think he used a small router bit which made the slots more uniform.  Either way worked, but dad's a perfectionist so his is a little nicer (the one pictured).
