Buttstock Cartridge Holders

I'm tossing this out for anyone who is interested.  Within the past year, I picked up an Allen 206 Buttstock cartridge holder for my '06 Handi.  It holds 9 cartridges.  It was 3.50 at my local store.  Since then, I got five more under 4.00 each for other Handis  They're tight elastic and hold cartridges well from the centerfire .22s to the .45-70.  I have them on a.357 and a .410 also.  It works on the .17HMR  and .22 mag. also with two per sleeve, but you have to grab two or the other one falls out.

I pull them over the stock, center them where I want them, then pull it back over the sling stud about an inch.  I take a untility knife and slit the sleeve about 3/8 inch on top center of the stud, push it down over the stud and replace the swivel.  Now it can't move around much on you.

I like them because they hold 9 rounds, they're a tight fit and don't drop cartridges.  They fit the Handi stock well.  I have them on both standard and Monte Carlo, recoil pad or not.  An added advantage is that the nine round capacity increases the weight of the butt, helping with recoil, when full, in large calibers.

Cannon6, Doug, it looks like you're useing them also on the .30-30s you posted.  How do you like them?

I've got one for my 308 and my 243 and my 20 gauge. I really like mine make's reloading real "Handi"

I've got a couple of the neoprene carriers, they work well and aren't noisy like cordura nylon when a branch scrapes it, they also stay put without any additional fixing, but they cost a little more.

Hate them throws off the proper balance/feel of a rifle for me. I use an ammo wallet from MTM to carry my spare ammo.

I have one on all my long guns. I only put 3 in the holders. That helps maintain the balance of the firearm. With one in the pipe- that makes 4. If I need more, I go to my fanny pack.

I love em on my handi, You can go though 10 rounds with an ejector barrel very fast.

I love them I use them on all my guns.... A gun is useless without ammo and everytime I pick it up I have 9 rounds on the stock...

I don't need 9 rounds for any big game rifle, I carry 2 or 3 rounds in the butt stock holder at the most, 1 is more user friendly for the very rare back up shot. I carry a few rounds in my kill bag fanny pack, but they're more for signal rounds or to replace a round that I use for a complimentary grouse than anything else.  It's a single shot, make it count.

I use the Allen type like Petemi does but in a different way.Like GB said they seem to mess up the balance of the rifle so I use them on my belt at my waist.Conforms to my shape and is very handy there.

I have them on my 224 and 243 , the only thing I don't like is the 243's loaded with V-max bullets tend to stab me in the arm ! OUCH !!

Other than that I like them , had to get the first on in Ok as none of the local places sold them , once I got home they were everwere , go figger .

I use them on a few of my rifles, don't seem to throw me off to much.  Helps off-set the heavy barrel for me.   Like em on the camp gun so if you see a deer sneakin by, just grab and go sneak after him.    DP

I don't seem to notice any difference in balance.  The guns feel the same to me.  I just got back from a buddy's deer camp up north of Newberry MI.  Had a wonderful three days.  His daughters, 12 and 16  shot .410 and .17HMR Handis on targets and we hunted and shot a few grouse.  We had venison backstrap, grouse, and trout on the grill last evening.  It was really nice, and the girls are turning into good shots.  The cartridge holder was "Handi" when the young ladies were shooting clays.

I started using them on big game rifles sometime in the mid 80s, liked them so much that I have them on every rifle I own now. I like being able to grab a gun and know the ammo for it is right there.
