Contender "easy open" Question
« on: September 19, 2008, 04:48:58 PM »
I have an original stainless steel Contender and I am considering having TC converting it to the "easy open" modification.  I have developed arthritis in the fingers and it has hindered my hand/finger strength.  Is the modification worth $55.00?

Thanks for you input.

If your frame is a Classic Stainless (circa 1993-2000) it already is an easy open frame pard.   You'll have to learn to make do with what you have.

Yes it's worth $55.00 to an owner, and as Ladobe says, if it's Stainless it's already got the "easy open" features. To optimize opening of a Contender, make sure that there's no excess oil in the action, and that the barrel's split bolt is dry.

Thanks for the information.  My TC's serial number is S43045.  Don't remember exactly when I purchased it, but was after 1993 I am thinking.  Again, thanks for the info.

There are a couple of different extenders that used to be available for Contenders, primarily intended for the pre-easy open models.  One kind stays attached and the other slips on and helps opening.  I haven't seen any new ones for quite a while, but they do show up on ebay and at gun shows.  I have one that I use with my traditional Contenders, and have primarily gone to the G2s because they are so easy to open.  Since becoming mature and having aching hands that has become important.

Serial number makes it circa 2000 FYI.

If it is an "S" frame it is already an easy open , no need to modify.
