scope out of adjustment
« on: September 20, 2008, 10:56:18 AM »
I went to the range today to get my muzzleloader on paper and can't seem to get enough adjustment out of my scope. Shoots low like 10 to 12 inches at 100yds pretty consistantly. I am using a Weaver 410 base, Thompson Center Maxima Standard rings, and a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x40 scope. This is mounted on a Encore 26" barrel.  What am I doing wrong / how do I fix this? The scope is adjusted as far as it will go.  Thanks!

Toss the rings and buy some Burris Signature Zee Rings. Don't forget to buy the offset insert kit to go with them as it sounds like you need it.

I just received a new set of Signature Zee rings and it came from Burris with 2 complete sets of inserts. It has a standard set,  all O inserts - and a set with +10 and -10 inserts. Something  new and very convenient if you need them.

As to a rifle that shoots a foot low at 100yds when the optics are set to maximum elevation:: I'd look to find the defect (gun, mount or scope) before I decided to correct the POI. That's just me but something is way off here and I'd rather discover what it is first.

Thanks, that was the reason for the post.  I'm not sure what the problem could be. I will start with the rings though. Thanks again!

On more and more new guns these days I'm finding the ONLY way to make them shoot to point of aim is with the Burris rings and offset inserts. TC is definitely one of the brands I've had such problems with along with Marlin and Savage all were rimfires and all needed the plus and minus 20s in both rings to get them on. Nope I don't own any of those guns anymore I took them back to the dealer where I bought them. It seems to me the gun makers are getting sloppy with tolerances lately.
