Hi all. I have a new encore with about 30? rounds through it. The first shooting session I put about 12 or so down range and took it home to clean. Right away I noticed that the breech plug was really fowled up bad in the primer pocket. I was using between 90 and 100 gr. JS All Gold loose powder with remington primers and trying different bullet types. I was running a wet patch between shots T/C #13 and then a few dry. I admit, I could have been putting too much #13 down the barrel and if so, would this cause a problem if it built up in the primer pocket during shooting? Possibly from seeping through the flash hole? There was also a ring of fowling around the firing pin which was a real pita to clean. I was also firing a couple of primers before loading every shot.
Anyway I didn't quite get all the fowling out of the primer hole and put some more powder through over the next few weeks since first session. I realized my cleaning practice was not good enough and really gave it a good cleaning this time. So I got all the fowling out and the breech plug is now clean but, it now has what looks like some sort of flame cutting in the primer hole? The flash hole looks good. It's just inside the area you seat the primer. Sort of like scratches or cuts, so I'm guessing flame cutting? I don't know.
My question is, Is this going to affect accuracy or anything else in a bad way? Or should I just shoot it and not think about, lesson learned? I was also thinking if I decided to try the .25acp conversion i the future, this plug would be a perfect candidate for it. What do you think?
Also I'm just curious, if I was to cut off the QLA, what would I do about the extra length of the ram rod? Can this be cut and re-used or would I need to buy a custom length rod? Thanks, jammer
