Hello from Michigan
« on: September 22, 2008, 03:33:14 AM »
Hi, I'm new to these forums. Since my Sidekick is my favorite gun I thought i'd post here. I hunt deer & turkey. I've never actually shot a deer or a turkey, but I keep trying ;D. I just took up hunting again a few years ago. I have my NEF Sidekick, NEF Pardner Pump 12ga (didn't know it was Chinese till after I bought it :(), an old Winchester single shot 12ga, a Savage .243 rifle and an old Darton bow. Bow season is a week away here in Michigan and I can't wait!

We go through Engadine on the way to deer camp over in White Pine on the west side eh.  Hows the deer herd looking this year?  Our herd at camp is getting slaughtered by the wolves and bad winters.

Im in Standish in the lower

We have a healthy deer herd here, despite the wolves, of which we have more than enough.  The 12 year old across the road got a really fine 10 point Saturday evening during the youth hunt.  Our winter was mild overall, but the heavy snow came late in March and April.  We haven't had 30 - 40 below in a few years now.  Hit around -20 once or twice last winter.  There are a lot fewer deer now than there was 10 years ago, but they're good deer with a better buck/doe ratio.  Most of the neighboring farms are practicing Quality Deer Management and it is paying off.
