Huntsman vs Sidekick

I really Love Muzzleloading. I have a T-C Encore 209x50 and a T-C Firestorm. I really want to get a H&R or NEF Muzzleloader. What are the differances between the Huntsman and the Sidekick ML's? Did H7R drop there Muzzleloaders? I just went to their website and didn't see them listed.

That is correct, H&R  NEF under Remington ownership has discontinued
the sale of the Huntsman and Sidekick guns.   BUT they
are continuing to make new muzzleloader barrels in both black
steel and stainless for the barrel upgrade accessory program
according to a conversation I had with customer service this morning.

I bought a Huntsman 24 inch stainless barrel about a year ago, factory fitted to my .45-70 SB-2 frame.  I later put it on an SB-1 frame and it shoots perfectly.  I last shot it around June/July and forgot to clean it.  I dragged it out dirty, and said what the heck, try it. ...10 perfect shots on an old, old, 209 carrier.  I'll clean it tomorrow.......if I can remember.

H&R discontinued the Huntsman 2 or 3 years ago, the Sidekick was discontinued in the fall of 2007 before Remington had anything to do with H&R, it wasn't listed in the 2008 catalog which was available in November or sooner as I recollect, Remington didn't buy Marlin/H&R until the end of December 2007, the deal was closed in January. You'll find a lot of misinfo about H&R products coming from the new Remington/H&R Customer Service in Madison, they just don't have a clue on a lot of things H&R unfortunately. :-\

are there huntsmans out there with different firing pin sizes, if you wonder what I'm talking about it was Busta talking about the .45 Huntsman,  ie if I buy an old Huntsman do I need to make sure it has a specific type of firing pin to avoid problems?

Busta: "I think he is talking about the old H&R .45 cal Huntsman. If he is I forsee problems with blowback into the small firing pin channel after a mere 5 or 6 shots. That was my experience with the #11 conversion i did a while back. For #11 caps, you need that old Huntsman frame with the big flat firing pin for it to work properly without a lot ofmonkeying around."

John,

The 70's era H&R Huntsmans were designed to shoot #11 caps, they had a larger diameter flat firing pin. The problem with using a #11 barrel on a newer SB1 frame is they have a shotgun firing pin for 209 primers. That smaller hole allows blowback to enter directly into the firing pin channel. The older flat pins were wider than the nipple opening helping deflect the blowback from going directly into the firing pin channel.

Any clue as to why H&R discontinued the Sidekick?  I love mine and I think it is an amazing gun especially for the money.
