Back from my 40th Class Reunion
« on: September 23, 2008, 06:47:29 AM »
Got back home last night from down south.  Went to Hendersonville, Tennessee to attend my 40th class reunion.  My wife had planned to go with me, but her nice was getting married the same day, and she elected to go to the wedding instead.  The reunion was very interesting, with a few surprises.  Five of what I had always thought of as the classiest girls, are school teachers now.  But of the men, only three of us was under 300 lbs.  Saw lots of people, and had a very good time.  Most of us looked like we are in our late 50s.  A few did not.

One slender tall leggy blond, wearing a cocktail gown, showing lots of cleavage, came up and introduced herself (Sylvia).  She looked about 40is, and as my son would say, she was HOT.  For the life of me I could not remember her.  She kept going on as to how I was the only person in our class that was taller than her during high school.  At 6'3" in 8th grade I was the tallest kid in our class, right on up to graduation.  She was an inch shorter than me.  She spent the rest of the night hanging all over me, and talking about things in high school and band.  She kept bring up the point that her and I were the only two in the entire class that is retired, and how she spends her time traveling and how I should join her.  I told her my wife would not think too highly of that, and slipped away, but she always found me.  Several of the women saw what was going on and would occasionally run interference for me.  Finally one woman Paula, got Sylvia in a conversation so I could slip out to meet a group at Paula's house for a continuation of the discussions and good times.

The next day I pulled out my high school annual and looked Sylvia up.  Now I remember her, the change was what threw me.  In high school she had been a chunky girl, with long mouse colored hair, and the daughtor of the local Baptist Preacher.  She was big and mean.  She had whipped several of the guys in grade school, and ruled the roost so to speak.  So by high school most of the class was afraid of her.  I did not like her, because she was the only person I felt intimidated by, due to her size.  I also did not like her attitude during high school.  She was the only girl I ever tried to hurt, and I have felt guilty about that for 40 years.  I always wanted a chance to apologize for that time, I laid her out in the hallway with a door.  But now it no longer seems important.  I was embarrassed for not remembering her, but don't want another encounter.  You know, I wanted to look good for the reunion, so i dropped some weight.  I am down to 210 lbs, and at 6'3" that's a good weight.  That and the fact I was unaccompanied was what caused my problems.

They are wanting to hold a 45 year reunion, but the only way I will attend is if the wife goes.

Oh, I forgot to mention.  Almost every woman wanted to know about Sara Palin.  They wanted to know everything I could tell them about Sara.  Only one woman the entire night had negative comments about her.  Most of the women said they definitely were going to vote for her.

I figured you were going to say Sylvia use to be a guy. ;D

My 35th is coming up next year.  I'll be the only guy under 175lbs.

My 50th was last week, here in town and I dint bother to go. The 40th and 45th my wife managed to get into a minor dissagrement with the PRIMA DONNA of the class. My wife is 16 yrs younger than I am. (I know craddle robber). The Prima Donna has been pushing for everyone to go on a cruise (the more the cheaper it is). Told her last reunion after spending almost 16 yrs at sea while in the Navy I know what the ocean looks like. On top of that most of the old class have the same little clicks they had in high school, and I never belonged to any of them. Besides the day of the reunion I had more urgent things to take care of, took my 8 yr old grand-daughter fishing.

My 25th reunion would have been this year. Man I am getting old. Between the people that did their best to make my life miserable and the people I did hang out with that turned out to be dirtbags I have no desire to see any of them again. I like the taking the kids fishing idea better.

To be honest, about half of the class was a bunch of sour grapes, that did not have a good time.  They seemed bitter over just about everything.  Several of them were close friends during school, life has not been kind to them.  But there was a group of us that had a wonderful time.  We went to breakfast the next morning, then went to the Country Club and cleaned up the ball room.  We all then went to one person's house and had a big party.  It was a blast, and many of us reconnected after so many years apart.  (No Sylvia was not there).  I really enjoyed myself, and my wife had a good time as well at the next day party since she was unable to make the reunion.  Our host and my wife spent the next day shopping, OOPS.  Now our host and her husband are coming up here next summer, WOW.  Along with three other couples.

No, like I said earlier most look like they were in their late 50s just like me.  I was the only one with a beard, and my beard is snow white.  There was a few like Sylvia that only looked like they were in their late 40s.  One woman in particular still had the body she had in 1968.  And to look at her you would think she was in her 30s.  Talked to her husband for a while, he told me she runs two miles every morning.  Is very careful about what she eats, and sees a surgeon regularly.

Me, I'm just an old fat man.

Reunions can be a lot of fun, my 45th is coming up.
I found out several years ago that my class has a Carl that used to be a Carla
very hard to talk to people you thought you knew and really didn't.
Some of us guys had a good time with the guy that dated her/him. in school. ::)

Sourdough,
Sylvia was probably unacompanied because after getting to know her, she may still be meaner than Hell ;D
I attended our 30yr reunion three years ago. Special notes were that a lot of us who did not wear glasses would have to move year books or other printed memento's to and fro in front of the eye balls to try and bring the print into focus.
