Not everyone can shoot a Remington as good as it will shoot.  Most of the Model 700s will shoot 1/2 MOA right out of the box with factory ammo.  Most of the off brands won't even shoot MOA.

Swampy, even though Baskin and Robin's makes 31 flavors, I bet that you get the same one each time. Try a new flavor, It may be your new favorite, that is untill you find your new favorite.

Ah, OK, so you are saying Remingtons are not user friendly.

Nope, you're wrong Swampy, Savage is the best, and that's all there is to it. Savage is clearly America's Rifle, just like the Packers are America's team. I know the facts Swampy, and I'm just telling them the way they are. I've been shooting for 40 years. ;)

As mentioned earlier, Savage has always made a nice cheap rifle.  They have a very small percentage of the American market share.  They are what they are.  I'm guessing even Ruger out sells Savage.

As much of a Remington fan as I am I have to say that's not a correct statement. Most Remington 700s will not shoot that well right out of the box or even after the trigger is lightened. Most will shoot three under an inch once you find loads they like which normally doesn't take too much experiementation. Most VARMINT models will shoot at least a substantial percentage of their groups (five shots) around a half inch at 100 with loads they like.

You really should stick to more factual postings and leave the fantasy out of it as the Remington can hold its own with any out there and doesn't need fantasy statements to support it.

Jeez, guys, can't you tell Swampy is so in love with Remington.....  I'll bet that instead of "dirty" magazines in the hidey hole that every guy has, Swampy's got all of the Remington catalogs....   :o.  Probably got a poster of a 700 BDL right next to a picture of his favorite supermodel too.   :D

So what you are suggesting is that I can shoot my 1975 M700 .308 Win and other rifles, including a couple of the dreaded Magnums and brands like Ruger and Savage and Springfield, to within MOA buit can't do so with the two M700 .30-06's I've shot, both manufactured in the last couple years?

That makes no sense, pretty much par for the course for you.

Yea, that's pretty much what I'm saying.  I can't account for that.  Maybe you should practice more with the Remingtons.  None of these rifles have been touched?  They are exactly the way they came out of the box?  Really?

This is like a train wreck that I can't turn away from. Swampy, you are beat, bow out gracefully.

Only the Savage 111GNS .30-06 and Ruger M77 MKII VT .22-250 are as they came from the factory.  Both came with floated barrels.  All the rest have had the triggers polished (Ruger) or adjusted (Remington) and the barrels have all been floated to eliminate changes in POI due to fluctuations in temperature or humidity (these are hunting rifles).  For what it is worth, ALL my centerfire bolt guns have floated barrels and the several Rugers shoot MOA or better (.25" best, .75-.85" typical).

That said, the two Remington M700 .30-06's, both new in the last couple years, were initially shot as they came from the factory, both with several types and brands of factory ammo (about 6 in all) and both shot about 1-1/2MOA at best.  They shoot better with handloads and the barrel floated, but still only about MOA best case.

Since I have only experienced the accuracy of the Savage I will have to to in that direction.  My 223, heavy fluted barrel shot almost a one hole 3 shot group.  I used fairly in expensive rounds in it as well.  With the trigger set up you can really have 0 creep with a VERY light let off.
It is by far the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.
