Remington Model 78 Sportsman
« on: September 24, 2008, 08:27:17 AM »
I saw one in .30-06 at the gun show on Saturday that had been cut back to 18" or 20" and it had a black painted ADL stock on it.  I wish I could have bought it as a project.  A rear peep and a nice ramp front would have turned it into a nice little brush carbine.  I bet that stock would have refinished nicely.  It had a Simmons 3-9X40 on it and he was asking $375.00.  Alas I already have a nice .30-06.......

I bought one at a gunshow a couple years back in .308 WCF. Last day of the show, and things were clearing out. Long story short, I picked it up for 250.00. It had the slickest bolt of any 700 remington I have ever manipulated. I sanded and painted the stock, mounted a scope and did a little shooting. It was a very good shooter, and I intended to keep it as I didn't have a .308.

But alas, I got the can't helpits for something else, and the Sportsman 78 was the only thing I had that I could trade on.

I think the guy that got it off me still has it, but I can't say for sure.

They really are great rifles for the money.
