Are they pre-engraved as shown in the photo or is that a fired example ?

You got it, casting lead band on repro Hotchkiss projo.  The other projo shown is a fired one.

This isn't my stuff, I took the photos at the home of a friend I visited today.

He plans to shoot those projectiles at the upcoming NSSA Nationals.  He's done it before and says they are accurate.  The field gun match is always early Saturday afternoon, if anyone is going to watch.

I should have mentioned that the two machined parts of the repro Hotchkiss-type projectile are made of aluminum.  That may or may not be obvious from the photos.

Another thing that might be mentioned is the hole that goes completely through the nose section so that air can get out from between the two sections as the cup compresses the lead.  A feature probably needed because of the light weight as compared to original projectiles.
