Need your opinions 7mm-08 Handi owners
« on: September 26, 2008, 03:41:01 PM »
Good afternoon:

I was thinking about getting a 7mm-08 Handi, so that I have a cheap gun to carry back into the rattlesnake wilderness this fall.  Most importantly, I want to be able to maintain an acceptable degree of accuracy out to 300 yards, with factory ammo (especially 140 grain corelokts due to availability).  Therefore, I was wondering if a Handi in this caliber would stand up to the test?  I have heard varying opinions about the caliber in a Handi from searching this forum, so I'm a little confused?  How much tinkering should I expect to have to do to get good accuracy,if even obtainable in the first place?

It's hard to find someone who doesn't like the 7mm-o8 chambering, it's good for everything from moose on down. As far as to weather you should "go Handi" or not I humbly suggest you read the FAQ's & all else you can on this thread. There is plenty of information here to help you come to a conclusion only you can make.
The best of luck & good shooting.  :)

Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

Look no further you have found that someone.  The 7mm-08 is an ok deer cartridge.  If I were going to use one of the rimless cartridges like the 7mm-08, I'd go with a bolt action.

Handi rifles are a dependable and accurate. The reason you see so many problems voiced is because this where poeple come to get answers. There are thousands that have no problems and are pleased with there rifles. 7-08 is a great caliber choice. Get you one and go shooting.

I forgot to mention mine is a new extractor barrel, and I have no issues with the rimless cartridge.  It is a very reliable and accurate rifle.....If it weren't I wouldn't have my grandson use it on his first deer hunt.

Mine works great as is.  7mm-08 is a great little cartridge, have 3 rifles in that chambering at this time.  Taken lots of deer with it and will let the boys use one for Elk this year.  DP
