Other than the stock, they are like any other Savage...
Ah, not quite Swampman. For 2008 Savage has made at least three changes to the "Classic" line:
1. The 2008 Classics have a new bolt release mechanism. No longer do we see the "the sear-mounted flag-style release lever" (Baker, 2008). The new mechanism has a button release located on the forward end of the trigger guard that disengages the sear when combined with pulling the trigger, which allows you to remove the bolt. Baker also points out that "this change has also eliminated the flat machine cut on the right rear of the action which helps to streamline its appearance."
2. The 2008 Classics employ a new cocking indicator. On the old models, the "sear-mounted flag was used as the cocking indicator" (Baker, 2008). Now, with the 2008 Classics, the cocking indicator, according to Baker's review, is built "into the bolt assembly by adding a tail to the firing pin which protrudes through the Bolt Assembly Screw (BAS) when the rifle is cocked."
3. The 2008 Classics also use a new smooth barrel nut that is the same size as the old slotted barrel nuts, but does not incorporate the slots that formerly accepted the standard Savage barrel nut wrench. The new smooth barrel nut is now loosened and tightened using a spanner wrench. In addition, "the smooth nut uses a set screw to lock it in place after the head space is set and the nut has been tightened" (Baker, 2008).
