September 28, Good morning Montana
« on: September 28, 2008, 02:47:08 AM »
Up early this morning, Gotta go to Great Falls this morning. Gotta take the Mother in law to the airport so she can go home.  For sure it's going to be an other great day in Montana.

When we went down to Great Falls on Thursday I was suppose to go to Scheels to look for Some Federal 243 Ammo  with the Nosler 100 grain partition bullet. Never made it there, I had two women with me.  I already checked Big Bear and they didn't have it. I am not set up to relaod yet so I have use store bought.  This will be the last year, I hope that the wife uses the 243.  She spends a lot of time shooting and is a good shot. She makes good shots on deer but that .243 just doesn't seem to have the penetration needed to kill these Montana deer.  I am thinking about buying here a 7-08, but would rather have a 7 x 57.

A couple of years ago I built a 336/308 AI with the idea of setting it up for her using 180 grain Noslers or Barnes 165 or 185 grs. bullet.   Couldn't find ay of those bullets at the time so I tried the Nosler 200g Ballsitic tips.  Liked the results so well that I took the gun to Afrcia and used it on plains game and it worked very well.  I'll have to keep my eye open when I unpack boxes out in the shop. I think I have an old beater Ruger 77 Stock that I can cut down to her 10 1/2 inch LOP and put on the gun.

For me I can always go back to my 338/06 AI or even better I'll shoot my 375 2 1/2 Flanged NE Martini.

Double D

Good morning to ya, been up way before this just cruising and making some changes on differant boards.  Truth is our Mule deer can be as large as a medium size Elk, and your right about the 243 Win just not being effective unless a premium bullet like you seek is used.  I may be headed over to GF this next week along with my father in law to pick up a car, and I can check for you then.  I can also check Sportsmans Ski House over here in Kalispell too, then let you know what they got on hand.

Well today is suppose to be a great day over here as well, but after we attend church today I just may take a nap because of how long I have already been up.

You all have a great day.

No need to check for the Ammo, found it a Scheels, $39.99 for a box of 20 don't want it.  They also had a Winchester 70  Classic featherweight in 7-08. Let the wife handle it and she liked it...her birthday is March.

Double D that 7mm-08 is a good prairie gun heck it's a good all around gun too, she will enjoy it.
