the best 9mm is on a 1911 platform chambered in 9x23.....perfect companion for the M1 carbine conversion in 9x23.......rock and roll everyone!

well 44 you got me there. in cartridges the 9x23 is the best.However this thread has focused on which 9mm pistol is best. Again I agree with you, the 1911.

Here I go hijacking again---but I must ask.
What is the difference between a 9x23 in a 30 cal carbine and the original 30/30 carbine it was designed too chamber. That is performance wise.

I loved my Hi-Powers until I fired a Sig 228.

Now I love my Sig 229.

William, you are mixing 3 cartridges. the 9x23 Winchester, the M1 .30 carbine and the 30/30 .They are 3 distinct cartridges only one of which is a 9mm. I am confused by your question and wonder just what it is you are asking.

The 9x23 Winchester is a high performance pistol round;the equal to the vaunted 125gr 357 Magnum round.
The 30 Carbine is just as its name says; a .30 caliber round made expressly for the M1 carbine of WWII fame.
The 30/30 Winchester was originally a black powder round for the lever action rifles of the 1880s. It survived into the smokeless powder era and is still a fine whitetail deer cartridge.

None was intended to fill the role of the other.

Actually that's about as close to gospel as it gets! "Best" means a lot of things to different people. Some define best by the aesthetics of the piece, some by the feel. Others by accuracy, serviceability, durability. It goes on and on. Although Hi Powers and 1911s are my favorites, and will always be with me, If I could only have one 9mm working pistol, it would have to be a Glock 17/19/34. The 19 would probably be my first choice, with the 17 and 34 a toss up. This is a choice I would make at a practical level, due to reliability, serviceability, and durability of the pistol. I have a few critical spare parts for the Glocks, and can replace any of them in a matter of minutes using only a nail if need be. I consider the Glock the "AK" of pistols. I now fully expect to be struck by lightning!!!

Althouygh i have had a CC for about 34 years now, I am noT a handgun affictionado, preferring to spend most my time with rifles.
Although it may be a bit outdated and low-cap compared to the later ones, I was always impressed by the Walther P-38. Am I off base and out dated ?

I won't go as far as to say it's the best ever.....haven't carried/fired them all, but I have a STI "Rogue" in 9mm that is by far the best I have ever handled. It conceals well, fires great and just plain ole feels good when you grip it....sorry getting alittle carried away there. I love the "1911" and even though I thought I'd never say it...my Kimber Tactical Ultra has been relegated to "beside the bed" duty. Also pretty handy that my STI was made just down the road about 40 miles from me here in Texas.

Well, picked up a 9mm the other day, I have shot a bunch of different types at the range over the past few months, but the one that kept drawing me in was the springfield xd. I shot the best with it and it felt the best in my hand.

i saw some smith and wesson centenial revolvers

if i had to carry a nine that would be it [but prefer the 357mag]

love my browning hi-power[30 round fmj] glove box gun

the hi-point carbine is my most accurate 9mm

but if i could have any 9mm
it would be a glock model 18
not practical but the fun factor is why

Although I owned 3 glocks in the past, I only have the 17L left to keep, I would choose the CZ75BD. To me, this is the handgun that I like the most. Accuracy is expectacular and the feel is superv.

As faras glocks is concerned, I like the model 19 as a close second choice.

The Glock 19. 15+1 accurate and potent shots of 9mm. Can be easily concealed. Reliable and easy to maintain. Can also use 17 round clips from the Glock 17.

Ask a Navy seal.. Sig 226.. but are pricey. Most all mentioned will serve you well. Pick one and thourghly vett it.. All listed can have a lemon! Don;t over think it too much. No mater wich you choose, someone won't like it.. Shoot to you heart is content.

My Marine Spec Ops grandson was not impressed with the 9mm he carried in door-to-door in Al Anbar, including Ramadi & Fallujah. He told me it just isn't a "stopper", at least not in the required hardball ammo, he preferred the M4 or the Mossy 500 for such work.
I suppose that is why both the Army & Marines are going back to the .45...

I guess it time to jump in again. I agree with Savage. If I were shooting a lot, it would be a 1911 pistol. The Hi Power is probably the prettiest gun to ever come along. If I could only have ONE pistol to do everything, it would have to be a Glock. But my nine today is a PF9 Kel tec. It does the best job for what I need it to do at this time. Situations change and the guns must change with them. 44 Man

OK, excellent point. I went with the MP-40 because this is an overly vague question and the MP-40 is arguable one of the best 9mm subguns of it's day. So my answer, while not best for a practical carry, does fit the parameters of the OP. He asked what was the best 9mm, but did not say best for what. But, as you point out, it's a rifle (sort of) firing a little bullet. So, then... what will pack the punch of a rifle and still fit within the parameters of the OP? I know! Holland& Holland double rifle in....(drum roll)...... 369 Nitro Express. It's real close to a 9mm bore, and it's no doubt a rifle cartridge.

How's that? Do I get a cigar?

I think i still like the Browning HP . owned Sigs , a Colt 1911 in 9mm , Bretta , S&W , and several others all nice for sure .
But like a good wife the HP not only looks good but works good also and is a comfort to be with !
