Base & rings for ProHunter 20 ga. barrel
« on: September 29, 2008, 05:50:44 PM »
I've read previous threads about the 12 ga. ProHunter barrels and the bore intrusion problems using bases other than the recommended No.9949 Weaver style base. I just purchased the 20 ga. ProHunter barrel and wish to use Leupold QR base and rings. T/C Customer Service says I can use the standard base for the 20 ga. barrel and the Weaver base was not necessary on the 20 ga. Specifically, will I encounter a problem using the Leupold QR Base on the 20 ga.? Has anyone used the Leupold QR base on the 20 ga. without a problem? What are you using?

I used the 9907 But it seemed the screw's were to long . I was afraid to tighten them all the way..For fear of damage. It is what they list. 3 phone calls later and finally an answer. The tech there promised there would be no damage or they would replace my barrel. It was scary to tighten them that much. But it did tighten down. Seem's OK I am taking it to the range here in a week or so to see what it like's for slug's. But I havent heard any response about the Leupold QR base.

First of all, thanks for the responses.

I just sited it in on Sunday. What results!  I did use Leupold QR low rings (49971) and base (52325) . No problems were encountered. The screws did not bottom out. I have a Leupold 2-7x33 scope on it. I purchased Remington copper solids 2 3/4, Hornady SST and Federal Barnes 3" tipped sabots. I used only the Federal Barnes Tipped. The range was only 50 yds. max. I am going to a 100yd. range this weekend. I'm keyholing the Federal 1 1/4" high at 50 yds. 4 consecutive shots! After 10 shots and intermittent cleanings, groupings were within 1 1/2 ". I stopped at that point. Need to get it out to 100 yds. next. I'm sold on the 20 ga.'s accuracy! I will report on the results after shooting at the 100 yd. range.
