Looking for a barrel
« on: September 29, 2008, 09:05:16 PM »
So, I've come into possession of a bolt action Safari (I think it's a '62 model) in .264 Mag.
It's NOT a caliber I need or want.
I could use a .375 (or maybe a .338) instead. BUT .... I really like the wood in this rifle so I'm wondering where I might go to find a genuine Browning barrel in the preferred caliber.
Yes, I know I could have it custom re-barreled by a gunsmith, but I'd like to find a Browning barrel to keep it sort-of original.

Anyone have any ideas???

I can't help you with any barrel info but if they are like the A5 barrels you will pay dearly for an original one.

Just keep the one you have and have it rebored and chambered. That way you have a orginal Browning barrel and in the chambering you want. I seriously doubt you'll find one in the chamberings you want to just screw in place but most likely Gun Parts Corp is the place to look for one.

I think it may be easier to find a Browning in the caliber you want and swap the wood with your 264 WM and sell the 264.  I'm sure someone out there will want a 264 for thier collection or as a plains rifle.

Thanks for all the input guys.
I'm gonna keep looking for now, but may have to end up trading for what I want.
