A friend in Illinois sent me a pict this morning of her 11 year old boy with a Buck taken this morning with a muzzle loader. This is his second year hunting and his second buck. kids make me sick LOL. The deer is huge. they field dressed it and it took 3 men to load it. She said it dressed out at 261lbs. I hope she is right. They are in touch with the local paper, She is going to let me know when it is out. I will get a copy and post it.

This young man is an outdoors man at heart. His dad is an avid outdoors man and training the young man well. Proof is in the picture. Picture is fuzzy because it is from her cell phone. I will have more details tomorrow when she sends them.

Lonny

**UPDATE**- His mom sent me a note. Garret was using a CVA Wolf muzzle loader, Power Belt bullets. Shot was 113 yards. He was hunting over around Sullivan Illinois. The nerve of some kids ;)

Nice, I know what you mean about those #$%& kids.
On his first elk hunt my nephew shot a 6x6 bull elk
in the 350 class, told him he was supposed to work his way
up to those :D

Told ya she had an elk tag too ;)
My 13yr old daughter with her first elk taken with a 270Win Handi rifle
she hit this cow just behind the shoulder on her 1st shot, missed a 2nd
running shot. Then put another in her shoulder as she stood there wobbling.
Three shots with a single shot before the elk made the 150yds to the timber
even though the first shot was enough, I was actually chuckling, I guess
she DID hear me when I said shoot til it's down ;D

my daughter shot her first deer on the 23rd of november, just 10 minutes before my nephew shot his first deer. they were both mule deer bucks and she was using her rossi 7.62x39 and he was using a rem. 742 in 30-06. she is 9 and he is 15. it sure had me wound up tighter then when i ever shot one of my deer. we all had a lot of fun. ;D

Wow!  Nice kills there kids.  My son got his first deer last year on his first hunt ever.  140lb doe with a bang flop shop.  She was dead before she hit the ground which couldn't be a better scenario with a kid.  My first deer didn't quite go like that.

My daughter took 2 does year before last. She didn't get to hunt much last year. But, this year she managed to take her first buck, a small 8 pointer.

 Tell them boys GREAT JOB!

Thanks for bringing a couple more young men to the world of hunting. To many folks dont take the time to teach their youngens about the outdoors anymore. Letting them set in their rooms and play games is a lot easier ::)

My best buddy (granson) is starting to get into all aspects of hunting and shooting. See my post under the Off Topic and Humor section. He's been varmit hunting with me. I might try to take him Dove hunting this year. Deer hunting will probably have to wait on his step dad, who happens to be a great guy and dad for him. My artiritis won't let me go out much in the cold. But I can see me making sure he has enough money and what ever other stuff he needs to make it easy for dad.

Anyway Making sure kids get started in the field and at the range is our best bet for protecting our future as shooters and hunters. Don't just take your own kids to the range and field, take some of thier friends.

WOW, I need to come back more often. Several post since I last stopped by. Great job Dads. Those are some awsome picts. Tell them kids GREAT JOB! for me. My kids are fired up for our season(deer) to start. Daughter missed the hunt last year(pregnant) But she has vowed to show us up this year again ::). Boy is going to hunt the early youth season this weekend. I am more wound up than he is. He is 16 so this will be his last year for the early season. I will have to find another youngen to drag around next year ;D.

Any ways, tell them good luck on the upcoming seasons. And thanks for doing your part to keep the youth coming.

We have had some good outings this 09. One overnight camp out I got the boys into a big flock of spruce grouse and they managed to get 8, 4 with a 22 rifle and 4 with a 20 ga (though sluiced out of trees). My oldest was stoked to use the 20 ga. I've ordered a Mossy Super Bantam for him this week. Also took my oldest (11) on a 5 day moose hunt. He was amazingly patient as we watched a lot of cows but couldn't call in a bull. He did well getting up before light at 6:30 am and going to bed at dark around 10 pm. He can be really tough. After the season closed he took 2 ducks, his first. A mallard and a green wing teal. He was very happy and they tasted wonderful. Now to get our for more grouse. Have considered flying out for some ptarmigan but winter is coming too fast. It snowed for half a day today and we have to get ready for winter first.

My youngest with a grouse - they caught more after these photos.

My oldest with his grouse - he's always sooo serious.

Oldest with ducks on the Nushagak R. After 5 days of being quiet and still but no moose he was very happy to get meat.

Great job Dand! Pat those young men on the back for us. The way those boys are hunting, you will not have to. ;) Then again why stay home when you can hunt!  ;D
