Hey anyone tried these yet??

Turns your 45/70 into a 405 win.

Do you think these are worth the money or just a lot of hot air?

Looks like recoil would be the same possibly worse.

Those would be interesting at high pressure 45-70 and 45-120 loads.  If he had the BC's I would try them possibly.

Haven't tried these, however I did tried sabots on my .308 a couple times.  Couldn't get 'em to shoot worth a darn.  Recoil was much lower, and velocity was MUCH higher, but neither is worth anything if you can't hit a target.  I was shooting 6" groups at 100M.

The seller doesn't mention accuracy, ask him. I have my doubts it could achieve 405 Win velocities with any accuracy, I get over 2400fps with 300gr bullets in my 405 Win H&R, accuracy is <1".

Getting sabots to fall away from the bullet consistently is a real problem. Remington had saboted .224 bullets for the 30-30 and 30-06 some years ago. The velocity was spectacular, but the accuracy was disappointing. they dropped them after a few years. Saboted shot gun slugs are the rage now with shotgun deer hunters. There have been a lot of research on this and the most limiting factor is the sabot it self. The sabot just does not want to tear way from the bullet the same way each time. This causes the projectile to wiggle and then causes it to go off center. They have gotten acceptable accuracy out of them, but it still is not as accurate as a good rifle with full sized bullets.

Sabots seem to work very well  and accurate in some firearms. Ask the Iraq Army about the accuracy of the M1Tanks and their sabot rounds. The sabots  seem to work much better in smothbore barrels, probably because there is no spin on the sabot to keep it together  ( Guess on my Part)

Wouldn't the spin be pulling the sabot apart?

2400 fps is achievable but not at trapdoor velocities...then again his posted trapdoor velocities aren't that high.

I don't know why they don't work well out of rifles.  Muzzle loaders have very good luck with them, seems like there would be a common ground between them.  I sure don't know myself.

What little I have played with sabots they seem to work better in smoothbores or very slow twist barrels.  Never have been able to get much in the way of accuracy as has been stated.  Didn't really try a lot of loads as the accuracy was just not there.

The 120 MM gun on the M1 tanks uses a sabot that is very different in design than what is available over the counter.  The way its made there are four or five separate petals that peal away from the dart and a separate base piece.  Least thats the way the one I saw was made.
