I don't see that as a reason to make them suffer needlessly.

I don't either or I would just poison deer gut piles and not worry about it.

Guess I gave a rather harsh impression there, I don't believe in torturing them, I'll always be as humane as possible, but I'll never pass up a shot at a coyote because i don't feel well enough armed. Since sheep are becoming a thing of history here in the west, government predator control programs are running out of steam. The tree huggers will never let the truth be told, but with less predators we will have more animals I like on the dinner table. I don't hate coyotes, I just want to level the playing field a little.

We (Indiana) have our share of coyotes. With all the chicken farms(TYSON) and our fast growing Amish population bringing in the sheep, Boat loads of small cattle farmers popping up. The coyotes are thriving. I have lived in several different states, never seen so few rabbits and quail, doves and other small game. We have as many crop fields as woods here in the southern part of the state. Coyotes are being seen constantly on properties near houses and in town. One Amish feller even offered a bounty, for an ear not the pelt. The reason I am wanting a smaller caliber with less noise>>A buddy of mine was offered 168 acres to hunt if he promiced to take out all coyotes he come across, coyotes coming up around the peoples house. I posted my .270 barrel of trade in classifieds. Thanks for your input.

I was just prowling a local (Fort Wayne) Meijer store yesterday. They have .223 45 grain HP Winchester white box for just under $25 for 40 rounds. It does not get much cheaper than that, you can not even get 22 Hornets that cheap; at around $35/50 or more. The 45's run in the 3600 fps neighborhood with a 24" barrel, very good coyote medicine. Another plus - It has been reported by many here that the Winchester white box ammo shoots very well in their Handi rifles.

Just a thought - You could pick up a couple of boxes while waiting on the new barrel to arrive. That would be about $53.50 with Mitch tax for 80 rounds. ;)
Great men have vision and resolve to make dreams come true.

I understand that the coyotes becoming a pretty good suburbanite, and why not, I bet pampered house cats and pretty little pooches are good eating. You gotta respect ol wiley for his adaptability.
