New Winchester Lever Actions??
« on: October 02, 2008, 09:38:57 AM »
I see that Winchester is producing the Model 70's again, and John Wayne commemorative Lever actions. Has anyone heard if they will be producing regular Winchester 94's and similar lever actions again? I hope so...

Mossberg had their act together and had the 464 on the market in no time. I wish we could turn back the hands of time and prevented the demise of the Winchester plant .

The current John Wayne M-92 commemoratives are made in Japan by Miroku for Winchester - just like the late M-1895's & M-1885's.

i have a 94 30-30 my dad gave me 50 years ago-still looks great and shoots great. I agree I never understood the stupid saftey and the angle eject. They tried to modernize a classic and all they did was cheapen it.

With the popularity of cowboy action shooting, I think they'd find a market.

There are already a lot of players in that market.  I don't know the numbers of buyers.  I suspect that is a major reason the Winchester levers are gone now.

If Winchester came out with a line of guns in the real cartridges used at the time, like those mentioned above, I think they'd find a niche.

While I agree that a line of well made lever guns would be a neat thing, according to the new owners, "they have no plans to produce ...etc".  If they change their minds, I hope that the rifles are better than the gritty, poorly made last run lever guns that we saw three years ago.  If they make those again, they will surely fail.

I like the top tang safety on my Model 94 rifle. easy to use  with my arthritis.  Sure, most people will not like them , but  I like it.   Browning has the same style safety on the A-Bolt rifle.

A safety on a bolt gun and a safety on a lever gun are two different things.  The leverguns already HAVE two layers of safety (half-cock and transfer bar), but some people are just too stupid to use it effectively, so they get hurt and get a lawyer.

Or the lawyers seek them out for personal gain, or to help the libtards put companies like Winchester out of business.  If people are too dumb after some 142 years of lever-action production with a half-cock safety to properly handle these weapons with they don't deserve to have any firearm of any sort in their hands.  The biggest part of handling a firearm is knowing how it safely functions--the other part is overall common sense.  No amount of lawyer-meddling can make up for a lack of either, although the irresponsible will try their best--for fun and profit!  >:(

Winchester is owned by FN.  The new model 70 is being produced in, I think, North Carolina.  I have heard good things about the quality control.  All new top of the line CNC machinery in that plant.  FN has the capacity and equipment to bring back the model 94 if they choose, and to do it with high quality.

A note on the Japanese Winchesters - I used to have a Browning (Japanese) model #71, and an original Winchester model #71 lever action .348.  The Japanese gun was just as well made.  Just lacked the Winchester name.  Of course I sold both, and still regret it..

FN was already making the 70 action as sniper rifle for the military and Law Enforcement. It was just good business sense to use the tooling to sell more to sportsmen to get their money's worth out of the tooling.
Here's a prophesy. When the latest bunch of gun grabbers take office and ban the "evil black rifles" and high capacity magazines, many will rediscover what ranchers and cowboys of old already knew. The "non-evil lever action assault rifle". Many a rancher or cowboy saved their bacon and the ranch with one.

Is the safety on the winchesters the same as the Marlins, because if so i am sure you will see them on the new rifles unless they convert the safety to the tang. Many people do not unload there lever guns from the loading port they rather cycle all there rounds in and out of the chamber , this is why Marlin went to the half block safety as this can be done with the safety on with no worries about prematuer firing.
