Casting for CAS with wheelweights (WW)
« on: August 05, 2003, 08:47:50 AM »
Many of us cast and use WW for our alloy.  I hate to melt it twice, first to get it into ingot form and then when I cast the bullets themselves.

So here's my method:  I save the spurs from the last casting session.  Then as I cast and the level of the pot goes down I add the spurs to keep it topped off.  Usually I can't keep up as the temp of the pot decreases to the point where it gets too cool for the bottom spout.  Not a big problem as after about 45 minutes I'm tired anyway.
Then I add the WW to what's left in the pot, flux and remove the clips and the rest of the trash.  I usually have to do this twice or so to get the pot full.  This will give me a pot full and ready to go for the next time.

While this is going on I'm cleaning up the casting area and laying out the bullets to cool.  Then I might lube/size (if I remembered to turn the heater on for the Lyman 4500--I do this when I think I'm about 30 from the lubing session.)
I can be lubing and check on the lead pot now and then.
