we  have  pirates  here  in  florida..   they  come  in  many forms  and    use  various methods..

as  long  as  there  are  pirates  i  guess   we  should  be  at  all  times  armed

i  live on  an  island   [but  we  have  roads  in  and  out]

 Yes; and those ugly capitalist sailors get in the way of their pursuit of a scrap of bread for their children. So what difference does it make that a few "capitalist pig" sailors must die, perhaps a 20 or 30 unemployed Somali pirates can live above a bare subsistance level.
 
   The Somali pirates do all they can I am sure, to avoid hurting any of Allah's own..so where's the harm ?

I read yesterday that the Somali military tried unsuccessfullt to recapture ONE of the hijacked ships, there are several. This one carries concrete, killed 2 scum. Time to take off the gloves. Reckon they need cement for their allah. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

International maritime law prohibits commercial vessels from being armed.  For what reason, I cannot possibly imagine.  It's the sort of rule that is created by soft-skinned European socialists, who have likely never set foot on anything other than a cruise ship.

As someone has already said; mount a "Ma Deuce" fore, aft, and amidships.  Keep some small arms and a LAW rocket or two in the bridge, and you make piracy a very dangerous profession.

what  about  fishing  boats?  and  private  boats?

a  man  and his fishing  boat and  crew  were lost  a few  years  ago
he  lived  down  the street  our  kids  rode  the school  bus  together
boat  and  crew  never .. found  no  wreckage ..     no  foul weather
local  gossip  and  news  suspect  pirates
the  kids  are  are  grown  now  but  with out  a father
i don' know  about  the crews  families

I know oil tankers cannot be armed with the exception of water cannons. On an oil tanker the crew cannot have a lighter or any spark producing device as the oil is releasing natural gas that is being vented out of the ship.
