ADL to CDL well sorta...
« on: October 05, 2008, 02:03:06 PM »
I found a new CDL stock on Gunbroker, and with some parts from Brownell's I swapped out the stock on my .30-06 ADL.  The sling is a Montana Sling.  This will be a heritage gun that my oldest son will get one day(if we are still able to own guns then.)  My heritage guns are not sold or traded off.  It will be hunted with & he will get it in whatever condition it is in at that time.

If I would have made some off the wall religious/political/non-Remington rifles suck comment I'd have 300 responses. ;D

Aren't the pictures of the ADL? I thought the CDL is a plainer stock with the mag release on the side.

I've always wanted to do a conversion, a clip would be so much handier when you are getting in and out of vehicles. How can a clip work when you already have feed rails built into the action?

Now if this was a good 270 you would really have something.

The CDL has a hinged floor plate.  You might be thinking of the DM models which have the detachable magazine.

Glanceblamm, that receiver isn't screwed in, it's just sitting in the stock. Before Swampy took the picture, he nailed the stock down (right through the sling) to that fence post with a railroad spike.  :D :D

Seriously though Swamper, I think I have pretty good taste when it comes to spotting a fine looking rifle, and you have one in that rig. That CDL stock looks fantastic. Is the walnut really as light colored as it looks in the picture? I compared my CDL with your picture and sure enough, mine sort of has that lighter tint to it, but not as much as yours. I think your your son is going to really be appreciating dad when he gets that rifle. Definitely will be a gift that lasts a life time. Great job!

I believe the stock is actually a little darker than it appears in the pics.  Sometimes my photo editing software makes wood stocks look a little more reddish than they are.

Yep, that's it. It has sort of a light reddish tint to it. I'd like to have a stock in the same exact color that your stock shows in the picture. Wonder what kind of wood a guy would be looking for to get that kind of color?

Walnut will do it.  Every gun company has a stain they use.  The old Winchester stain is a reddish color.
