.41 Special ;looking at making a run
« on: October 08, 2008, 05:26:06 AM »
Folks,

We are looking at making a run of .41 Special brass and ammo. What I'm trying to do is find out how much interest is out there for it. Cost will depend on how much we do in one shot, but I'm looking at about 35.00-37.00 per box of 50 on loaded ammo with premium bullets (210g GDHP, 210g Nosler HP) Not sure on the cast loads yet. Brass would run about 25.00 per 100. Please let me know if you are interested.

reed you might want to contact rocky raab at handloads.com. he's
been pushing the 41 special. your prices seem pretty reasonable.
one last question, can you shoot 41 specials out of a 41 mag? dan

Yes you can shoot .41 Specials from the .41 Mag, it is comparable to the .38 Special/.357 magnum or .44 Special/.44 Magnum

No pre-orders needed, just getting a fix on how much I need to set-up for the first run and if it will be viable. I don't want to do 100,000 pieces and only have enough market for 5000pcs. Nor do I want to make 10,000 and have it all sold right away and just turn around and have another run made.

Sounds great. I'd love to have another excuse to shoot my 57 more. A .41 Special load might just make it a carry gun again.

i would be interested in both ammo and brass especially if the 230gr keith bullets out there could be loaded to fit the cylinder length (1.6") of my fa 97 which is too short to accept them in the 41 mag case.

Well, it is in progress and should be here in the next 6 weeks or so. Cost is going to be a bit more than I anticipated at 38.00 per 100, but still less than going with Quality Cartridge's brass. Which of course will push the cost of the ammo up some too, but I'll contain that as best I can.

Benny, it should handle the 230g Keith I'll check to make sure when I get back.

Sure will. With the 230g Keith it comes in at 1.590" seated to the top of the crimp groove.

I'd been thinking about a run of 75-100,000 from Starline for years. There just wasn't the interest. Also looked into a couple custom manufacturers to do 25-30,000 loaded rounds. Again, no interest. I've been trimming .41Magnum cases to Special length for a couple decades at least to run in my .41Specials. Some properly headstamped brass would be nice. Thanks.

I'd be good for 4 or 5 hundred cases at that price. Midway is somewhat steep.

The headstamp will still be .41 Magnum, I'd have to charge nearly 1.00 per piece to have it properly headstamped.

In that case I will just continue trimming my 41 Mags. They do about last forever as I load them for my Single Six.

Weeelll alrighty then! I've already got several hundred short .41Magnum cases so I'll rescind my order. Qualite is very expensive and I know what Starline quoted me for volumn. Thanks anyway and good luck finding the market.

I'd be interested in about 200 brass. Easier than trimming all those mag cases I guess.

Joe,

No problem at all, I should have made that clear at the onset. Many folks have made it plain enough that considering the low cost it is much easier than trimming that it will be well worth my efforts to keep it in stock.

The 41 Special brass is ready, cost is 38.00 per 100. .41 Magnum Starline brass cut back to .41 Special length.
