Help me decide which sights to put on 1894
« on: October 09, 2008, 06:19:31 PM »
The first thing I did when I bought my 1894 (44mag) was to buy some new sights. I bought the XS ghost ring sights, but I've never really liked them. Even the smaller of the 2 rear aperatures wasn't quite small enough for my liking.... SOOOOOOOO..... what aftermarket sights do you guys have on your lever guns? What's the best bet for like $70-90?

Thanks for the help!

My slightly older 1894s are drilled and tapped for a left side receiver sight. Recently I have been using
Williams Foolproof sights with an XSSystems illuminated post front sight. My new 1894C wasn't drilled and tapped. I had to have it drilled and tapped to mount the Williams sight. I didn't care for the similar sight mounted on top of the receiver using scope mount screw holes.

Yeah unfortunately mine isn't drilled and tapped on the left side  :(

How much did it cost you to get that done?

willaims makes a top mount that uses the first two scope mounting holes.

Buy a threaded post for your XS so you can change apertures to a smaller one you like.

It already has a threaded post, but it only came with 2 rear apertures. Does XS make smaller ones?

I bought the XS sight's also. It came with 2 rear apertures (different size holes) These thread into the sight base. I recently purchased a new post that threads into the sight base and is threaded in the eye opening to accept williams and lyman apertures which come in several hole sizes. These can be purchased from Brownells. Hope this helps.

try the williams WGRS peep sight which mounts in the two rear scope base holes and williams has several different size holes for you to try.Note the smaller the hole the better for target shooting while the larger holes are for hunting You can also check out these iron sights go to www.oneraggedhole.com
