Springfield XDM 9mm
« on: October 10, 2008, 01:38:20 AM »
I've been seeing the advertisements for the new XDM 9mm model that holds 19+1.  Does anyone know when this is supposed to become available for purchase?  I saw one on GunBroker after it had already ended.  It claimed that the gun was NIB and the price was $588.  It didn't sell.  I can't imagine that gun being on there for that cheap and not selling.  The XDM 40 cals are selling between $575 and $600.

By the way, is there a reason these forums don't have a Springfield forum in the Handgun section?  That would be a nice addition.

XD9,

I likewise have been wondering when the XDM 45s are going to be released.  I've wanted a XD45 for a long time but then heard about the improved XDMs so I decided to wait.  If you find out, please let us know!

Blessings!

Will do.  I haven't yet seen any advertisements for the 45's but I'm sure they're in the making.  I'm hoping the 9mm's will be available in mid-November to December.  I've already let my local gun shop know to inform me when they have access to them.

The XDM's in 9mm are now shipping!  Anyone seeing them in their area?  There are some guys on XDTalk that are already getting them.

After I read about the XDM 9mm I have been hoping for Springfield to come out with an XDM 45 acp.  When those hit the shelf, I'm going to give them some serious consideration.  I had a regular XD 45 and it was a great gun.

I received an email from Springfield's sales dept. this morning saying that they have no plans to offer the XDM in 45 ACP.  I find that hard to believe.

Blessings!

I'd say they'll work on the 3" XDM models before they work on a 45 in the 4".  I've been wrong before though. :)

The XDM 9mm's are now starting to hit GunBroker.  One went up a couple of days ago for $650 and sold in an hour.  The same user has now posted another one and set the price at $695.  I don't think they'll be able to stay there.  Most of them that I've heard of selling are going between $550 and $625.  The .40 cals are going for around $580 and below for all black.  The bi-tones are a little more in each caliber.  As soon as I see an all black 9mm for around $600, I think it will be coming home with me!  ;D

I've never heard of anyone not liking their xd pistols.  I think they're great and I'd be will to be that within 6 months from now Springfield will be talking about an XDM 45.

Looks like the "M" model comes with different rear sights, a "Match?" barrel, and a slightly different grip with an extra round over the base models. Do these changes make the XD into a $600+ pistol, or is it the marketing hype? I have had the opportunity to shoot the .45 and 9mm XDs and think they are OK pistols, but when they get over $600 I can think of a few others I'd rather have. What am I missing?

Savage,

Please keep talking.  What would you get in the $600 range?  Thanks.

Blessings!

A stainless Taurus 1911 or a Sig refurb are both in the $500-$600 range. I prefer them both over the XDs. I have plenty of polymer pistols so I don't have an itch to scratch. Just curious what caused the price to double from the HS-2000 to the XD-M.

my xd 45 acp was less than $500 when I bought it.  I wouldn't want to spend much more than that for the xdM 45.  I think they are also increasing the mag capacities too on the M models.  There was absolutely nothing wrong with the xd 45 I had.

Teddy,
I liked the XDs I shot ok, but not any better than the plastics I already had. A friend of mine has the Tactical mdl in .45. He says he's really fond of it. He's always carrying something else when I see him, usually a 1911 of some sort. Best I can tell, they are good reliable pistols, just offer no advantage over my other plastics. Had they kept the price where it belongs, in the $450 range, I'd probably own one in 9mm for my ESP class IDPA gun.

It doesn't make a big difference to me that the gun is made of plastic or not.  It's just not that big of a deal to me.  I used to own a glock 35 and it shot just fine, but I like there to be some kind of external safely features even if it's on ly cosmetic.  I like the loaded chamber indicator on an XD and the angle of the grip to the sights.  To me it's much more comfortable to shoot that way.

The XDM models have several improvements over the original XD models.  The contour is slightly different making them easier to conceal...not much though.  The major differences are the inter-changeable backstraps and the match grade barrel.  The match grade barrel will be great for the range.  It also offers 19 + 1 mag capacity!  I had the XD 3" in 9mm.  It held 10+1 and the extended grip mag held 16+1.  The XD pistols are extremely accurate so I'm looking forward to seeing the difference that the match grade barrel makes.

The quality is great with the XD's.  I owned my XD 3" for two years, shot probably 1,500 rounds through it, carried it daily for over a year, and sold it for more than I paid for it!! :)

Picked my XDM up last night for $589 at the local gun shop.  It feels very nice in the hand...I'm looking forward to getting out this weekend and seeing how it shoots.  Now, I need to start looking for a laser / light to put on the accessory rail.

I'm glad Springfield packaged these with paddle holsters instead of belt holsters too.  They're much nicer.

Anyone else picked one up yet?  I'll post in a few days to see how it did at the range.
