And it looks like he shot it with a Remington "Belch Fire" and its compensator gizmo on the muzzle! Great big bore for that Great Big Boar!

Made my second trip to TX this winter, my son went this trip and we both got our first hogs which was a pretty cool experience to share. Thanks everyone for input and tips. He used his .270 and I used the 45-70 Handi. We got 5 because we were to kill all hogs we could but one was pretty tiny. thejanitor

That's what we're talking about. QUANTITY is QUALITY. Pull the trigger till you're HAPPY. Kill them all...there is no "end of line" with pigs.

May I recommend a .223 AR-15 and 30 round clips. That is a Target Rich environment. Just keep shooting!

Um, 223 is too light, IMHO--I use an R25 in 308 with 20 round clip~

I don't think any of the hogs in the picture would top out above 80lbs. I would use a 22lr and head shoot them.

We've had feral hogs in my neck of the woods for over 100 years. I don't head shoot hogs ever because of skull shape and thickness. I neck shoot them. This usually means an instant down. I have also killed my biggest boar with a 52 grain match hollow point from a 223. They professionally helicopter hunt hogs west of here and the shooters use an AR15 reflex site in 223.

It was about 25-30 yards. Camera makes things appear farther away.

Land Owner,I havn't worn that outfit officially since 1983.It makes some good stomping around the woods cloths though don't they?Tell your boy I said "all the way". That terrain is central Texas..about an hour east of Austin.

Got my first ever hog. I figure he weighed some where around 100 lbs. Called him up with a Fox Pro Electronic caller. Wild pig in distress. Took about 10 mins for him to respond. 308 head shot at about 25 yards. We dont have em right around the house here so I had to go off with a buddy of mine. I really hope they dont like our part of the world but I know theyre coming sooner or later.

I bet that .308 dropped him faster than a "high maintenance" girlfriend. Nice hog. A good one for your first. When the meat isn't laced with adrenalin/acid/testosterone, the Primordial "chemical soup" when they are chased and/or scared, you get a good meal from head shot hogs.

First thing I have ever killed with it bigger than a skunk or rabbit. Hog never moved out of his tracks. Them things must be pretty dense cause it didnt throw him around like when you shoot a deer,he just fell over and started kickin his back legs. I kept him covered for a while lol.

Hogs have a real low center of gravity, a "wide-body" stance, spread hooves, and short leg bones compared to deer. Also, the manner in which your bullet expands as it passes through, hitting bone, backbone in particular, has a lot to do with "tipping moment". I just love it when they tip right over and start kicking. No Tracking. Well done!

F.A.L. with a 3-9 mildot makes a great gun for this as well.
