A friend of mine recently moved to south Texas to manage a ranch. Right after he got there, he told me he had a pig problem. Well, he sent me this picture the other day. He was out feeding cows and took a few moments out of his busy day to shoot these. Looks like, I need to take a little trip to see a good friend!

He is my second Pig on the Tajone Ranch.
Can't believe i am just a few miles north of Los Angeles.
Shot it with a Rem M700 V in .308 and used Fed X bullets- Dang Condors- you need to use no-lead ammo on the ranch for everything.
This one was good eating the last one was not. he was this old gladiator pig that was really nasty tasting. Even the dog did not like it.

Got these yesterday evening, then the work started...
Took some rigging to get them out of where they were, and up into that mule. Sure was glad we had a winch on the 4 wheeler, sure made it a bit easier.

Yea,
He and Mike get two or four Pig tags a year for the Tajone.
Last time we were up there there were Turkeys all over the place and we did see a few good deer as well as about a 40 - 50 pound Bob Cat.
But at $500 for camping in one of the cabins plus guide tip it is a pretty good deal as far as CA Pig hunting goes. Down side is everything on the ranch needs to be Lead Free.

My buddy Chad with his first Pig on the Tajone in 2008.
He shot it in the chest from about 150 yards out but it was a little far forward and broke both shoulders high.
I was the first one to the pig and it was gasping and then would go quiet then would gasp again.
I said out loud" DIE already" with that his eyes popped open and he stood up.
I had Chad's rifle and pointed it at the pig while yelling get "down here"
Chad was yelling "DON"T shoot my PIG"
Well long story longer we could not get Chad a shot on the body so he shot it in the head and made a mess of the porker. The rifle is a Ruger M77 in 7mm Mag. using Barnes bullets in the federal load.
While it was only 150 yards back to the truck it was about 30 yards strait up the slope. Good thing we had a rope.

This is my first hog,I shot him with a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 this afternoon. He and his buddy were at about 40 yards and he went about 50 yards after the shot

Here's the skull from my first and only boar (you can see the mount on page 3 of this thread). Until recently I had it sitting on the coffee table in the "man cave." But I was rearranging after we got rid of a couch and ended up moving a deer mount to a wall that it looked a little better on and then just got on a roll and put the shelf together and "voila!" That's the bottom of the boar mount right above it.

The main reason I got it done was because I wanted to have the real tusks since my taxidermist used fake ones on the mount. I'd probably get both the skull and the mount again, if i ever get another hog, because it looks pretty cool having the skull right there under the mount.
Good luck to you sir!!!

Here is Tim with his Boar Javilina. it is his first "big game animal".
Tim is a big guy and makes the small 40 pound Desert Pig look really small.

Javelinas are of the family Tayassuidae which is of the suborder Suina which also includes the family Suidae. All of that is to say that they are cousins of pigs, but not actually pigs. But, yes, in my opinion, they do count. Great job!
