I've had three 4570s. Still have a ton of ammo and brass. My last, was my favorite in a 1895 Cowboy. I sold it because I occasionally hunt with friends and their dogs. I was afraid I would shoot thru a hog, and kill a dog. I regret selling it because I liked it, but the fear was ligitiment. It always shot thru even the biggest hogs.
I have killed feral hogs with everything from 223 to 4570, but my favorites are either the 3030 or the 357 mag in a rifle (leveraction).

Hi Dee

Yep...they do shoot through!  I use a 350gr speer sp toppa 46gr IMR4895.  Gives me about 1700fps and bowls'em over!!  I'm sold the 1895, wasn't that much fun to shoot.  Love the #1...use a 2.5 Leupold scout scope and it handles like a shotgun!!!

Nice hogs...and nice choice in weaponry.  I get to shoot a lot of hogs, but I haven't seen any that rival those big monsters.  The first one in my original post was the biggest I've shot, and he barely made it into the 300# club.

I handloaded a 405 grain cast to 1750 in mine. Never had a # 1 but always wanted to try one.

Got to take a buddy out with me yesterday afternoon.  apparently i'm not a very good guide.  we spent several hours checking the usual spots then finaly came across this little boar which he got.  He'll make a good meal for a fishing trip we have in a few weeks.

Went to Tennessee for our first hog hunt.

Me, the wife and son #2. We all scored. None were trophies but all were fun! :)

Here are some pictures.
This was mine. Shot on the run with the Marlin 1894CS in 44Mag. 250gr Keith loaded over a healthy charge of WC820 (MILSURP powder for the 30Carbine) for about 1800fps. Stopped it in it's tracks @ 40 yards or so broadside.

Here is the son's. He used his 30-06 with some 165gr handloads.

And last but not least, the wife with hers. This is a video. Hers was the first taken and it is kind of smallish but she shot it with a 30-06 and 150gr Nosler Ballistic tip handloads. She had a great time!

And this is her just goofing around with our son's hog.

Great fun. Going again only to Texas next time!

Just got back from Wild Hill in VT.  Great time had by all!!  Met up with S.B. and Six_gunz and Christos from this site.  Great guys and I had a much better trip cause they were there!!!!

I took this hog at dark with a 6" sw29 using a 240gr XTP toppa 24gr H110.  Bang flop (though I'm kinda baffled as to why considering the size of the bugger!)  It was soooo freak'n cold!!!!!!

here's a pig i got opening day of deer season on the red river below brice, tx.  crappy cell phone pic but he sure ate good! got him with a .30-06 with sierra pro hunters, 165 grn.  hit him on the run in the heart and lung at 130 yds- he did a headstand when i hit him.  hey yall that think you can't eat the bigguns, soak the meat in a cooler in ice water with a couple cups of vinegar.  drain the water off daily for 2 or 3 days and replace the icewater and vinegar and it will taste better than any store bought pork, boars too!

a lot of the boars we have been killing lately seem to have this feature. like their nose is hanging over their mouth almost.  i've killed a lot of hogs, but never took pics.  this last year we have really been taking a lot of everything, and it's a lot of fun so i guess i will continue.

Isn't that going to break into your "cat" fishing, not that that is a bad thing?

hey, i always find time bud!  we try to wrap it up together.  we'll fish walleye all night and hunt ducks and geese at sunup. we hunt squirrels in the morning/evening and fish all day.  i had one spot where we could fish till 3 in the morning, then hit a soybean field for pigs on the way home.  we try to make it all fit.  can't wait till my kiddos are old enough to go for the big stuff with me.  right now my oldest (eight) is a prairie dog and rabbit killing fool!  this year she'll get a shotgun for the rabbits and next year sh'e get a .243.  her little sis is 4 years behind her and their brother is 4 years behind the middle.  i try to involve family in everything i do except my job. my wife processes meat with me, and the older kids help me skin deer and hogs.  i could use a gambrel, but i skin on the ground, half an animal at a time, so the kids can hold legs.  it's real important to them.

A couple of TN hogs I have taken in the last 6 weeks. In TN they live in the thick stuff and hill country, I envy the guys in FLorida and TX who can catch 'em in the open. Both of these were taken with my Tikka in 243, seems like enough gun.
First one dressed out at 125 lbs

Second one from this weekend, dressed out at 200lbs, much bigger despite how photo looks.

Here is a photo of their feet to show how much bigger the second hog is, I kept a foot from the other one as reference.

454,
He weighed in right at 480. I was surprised the only cuts that had a little gammie smell when cooking were the rear hams. The rest of him is excellent.

Nothing too special here, but my wife and I got to go out yesterday morning and got two.  The big news here is her new rifle is shooting well and the pigs are moving around again.  So it was a great day for us....not for the hogs.
