info needed, diameter of chamber area
« on: October 11, 2008, 05:18:51 PM »
Hi guys, I am asking you learned TC members for some help. I have a barrel (not a TC barrel) that mic's appx 1.1" and has been drilled and tapped for a TC scope rail. I am unsure which TC rail was on this barrel, I was only told it was a TC rail, is was gone when I got the barrel. I want to purchase a TC scope base that most closely fits the radius of my barrel. I will then lap the base to fit the barrel and install it. The base choices I have are for either a: 1) contender or 2) an Encore, Omega & Triumph. Could/would any of you that have either a Contender or an Encore/Omega/Triumph mic or measure the diameter of the part of the barrel/chamber where the holes are drilled for the rail (2 sets of 2 holes correct?) and let me know what that dimeter is so I can order the proper scope rail? Thanks for your help, the holes are already drilled and tapped and I want to make use of them....<><....:)

P.S. - I believe I will should be ordering either a scope rail #9893 or #9899....Thanks...

Contender is .805".   Perhaps an encore mount will work. What kind of barrel is it?

Thanks that helps, it is an H&R/NEF HandiRifle barrel that has been drilled and tapped for a TC scope rail. The diameter of the are where the scope rail is mounted is appx. 1.1". Since the Contender is .805 that leaves the Encore/Omega/Triumph that will hopefully have a barrel diameter closer to 1.1" where the scope rail holes are drilled. Now if someone can verify that I can order the rail #9899 and start step 2 of this project...Thanks for your help...waiting to hear on Encore/Omega/Triumph diameter....<><....:)

P.S. - you guys are great, thanks for the help and quick response Madmark,,,,

It is not convenient for me to get a micrometer and measure right now, but I believe the Encore is 1".  I do recall that I had an extra Contender Weaver mount when the Encores first came out, and I had a machinist friend do a 1" ball end mill treatment on the bottom of it; it worked perfectly.
