accuracy of Remington model five?
« on: October 13, 2008, 05:39:04 AM »
I just sold a beautiful BRNO 611 .22 WMR auto because, after trying about every brand and bullet weight and several scopes, I just never could get consistent groups under 3moa, although the little rifle functioned perfectly with all. So now I'm in the market for another .22 WMR and the Remington M5 looks like a good gun for the money. I love the looks of the CZ fullstock but the action is a bit longer, adding about 2" to the overall length and cost about a hundred bucks more than the Remington. Does anyone have hands on experience with the Remington (I believe it's made in Serbia) and specifically are they accurate?
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

Not the model 5 but the Daly Rimfire which was what it was before Remington put their name on it and upped the price $100. Not a bad rifle, fit and finish is excellent. The triggers are horrible, at about 8 lbs with a lot of creep. After some polishing and a lighter spring, got it to 2.5 lbs. Groups were around 1" at 50 yds for 5 shot after trigger, before 1.5 or so. Sorry, don't know exact group sizes, it's been a few years since I shot it.

Bugflipper, I am wandering why would you replace the trigger springs in this rifle, when the factory trigger is fully adjustable. My mdl. 5 is a 22lr. and I can get 1/2 inch groups at 50yds. with blazer and green tag ammo. and I feel the lamonate stock that Remington put on this rifle is well worth the extra $100.00 mine is well fitted niclely checkered, and is a full size stock for adults.

45 North, factory triggers are one of my pet peeves. I can understand the heavy poundage for liability reasons. I can't understand why the companies won't put them on a buffing wheel for 60 seconds and take the creep out. Sometimes it takes us an hour to disassemble, buff and reassemble.
I like to set my triggers up with full sear engagement and light springs. Most adjustable factory triggers advance the sear when you adjust them, making it easier to pull the trigger. In case I drop the rifle or bump it I like full engagement.
