October 15, Good morning Montana
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:35:54 AM »
Good Morning Montana!!   It's a nice brisk 19 degrees this morning.  Finally some pleasant weather,  Suppose to warm up to the high 40's today.

Got the lawn cut yesterday. The front took me 10 minutes start to finish, the back 20 minutes...told my wife I was plumb wore out so I took a break. I hope she remembered  how it use to take use 2 hours to cut the five acres we had on the place north of town...Didn't work she caught me.  Didn't I say the women is a tyrant.

From mid to late  February until Mid July, I spend a great deal of time up north shooting gophers.  For those who don't know, most gopher shooting is done form the front seat of the truck.  This past year I shoot over 3500 rounds of 17HM2 and the wife fired 2500 round of .22 LR.  We hunt from our F-150. I can tell you this year our hunting was cut back by the cost of gas.

The wife and I have discussed buying a golf cart and setting it up for gopher shooting.  We would need a trailer to haul it out to the gopher patch. We still would have to burn gas to get out to the various  gopher patches. In the early part of the season with the wind and cold an open golf cart might not be all that comfortable.  Then there would be the loading and unloading when moving from one patch to the other.  Then there is the issue of the shooting table and spare gear. No room for it on a golf cart.

I was cruising the net yesterday and quite by accident I cam across a potential solution.  Postal Jeep.  Self deliverable to the gopher patch.   Right hand drive--people I take hunting always complain about having to shoot from the left seat.  4 or 6 Cylinder auto transmission. Room to carry gear in the back heated enclosed cab. 2Wd---haven't realy needed 4WD gopher hunting.  Okay so I got stuck once and had to turn on the 4WD, but I could have crossed the bottom further up also.

Found one for under $1000, 4 cyl, 151 Cu in Chevy Nova engine. Shouldn't be hard to find repair parts if needed.  Should be easier on gas consumption  I am not much of a auto mechanic, but shouldn't need a lot of work....any thoughts

Montanan,

Just so you know, Tim and I talked to each other just like this for a long time when we started the Cannon board. Slowly but surely we dragged the others in.  Now I have post there just so so thye know I'm still there.

You will have to come over next spring and help me shoot some gopher in my mail jeep!
