1863 Remington

I picked up a used 58cal 1863 Remington "Zouave" repro about 20 years ago and I can't find the manufacturer other than the "Made in Italy" stamped on the barrel. It has a 1903 rear sight silver soldered over the stamped portion and the only thing I can see peeking out from under it was "rophy Hunter Corporation-Hollywood, Ca". I'm assuming Trophy Hunter is what it says. It also has a raised front sight soldered on to compensate for the height of the rear.

I can't find anything about Trophy Hunter Corporation anywhere on the net. Uberti, Pedersoli?

The left side of the barrel near the breech should have proof marks and will probably have some block letters (sometimes in a box or oval) or a logo of some sort.  Some of the marks will be a code for the date of manufacture.  You may need a magnifying glass to see them clearly.  Tell us what markings you have, or post a picture, and we may be able to take a shot at it.  A lot of the Zouave imports were made by Zoli.  If you have one of those it's a good one.

Many different importers sold Zoli made Zouaves, but they were usually plainly marked.

SILE imported Zouaves made by Ransom Italia, a company that seems to have ceased to exist. Again, they were plainly marked.

Armi San Paolo made Zouaves, and their makers mark is a circle with DGG stamped in it, or sometimes, just a D, followed by two Gs, one on top of the other.

Armisport made them as well, and their mark is a circle with AC stamped in it.

The mark Petersoli uses is a circle with DP stamped in it.

Uberti's mark looks like the muzzle of an octagon barrel, with a U stamped in it.

Look it over, there will be a makers mark on it somewhere.

I have a really nice Zoli Zouave.  On the trigger guard it is stamped very nicely, "Sears Roebuck & Company."

For a few months CVA sold a Zouave, saw it in the catelogue but never saw one in person.
