Fixed barrel 44
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:09:29 PM »
A co-worker showed me his fixed barrel Dan wesson.  It is a 6" S/S Palmer gun.  Has anybody had the barrel off of these??  If so, will an regular DW barrel thread into place??  I realize I would have to drill the frame and install the roll pin for the shroud, but this can be done easily.   Before I tell him that this is a GO, I'd like to know if DW facory barrels will thread into the frame.

NO!!! It is a fixed barrel. The frames are different and barrel & shrouds will not fit. And the fixed barrel does not just screw out as with a small hand tool like the shoud model that comes with, you need to have the correct gun smith tool and know what you're doing.

Do they  screw out like a Ruger or Colt??  I never had any special tools to take those barrels off (unless you consider a barrel vice a special tool).   Do ya know the thread pitch of the fixed barrel DW's??  If it is smaller, I can open up the frame.  I'm not too good on the lathe w/ a boring bar but John Linebaugh lives across the creek from me - he will keep me straight!
