Barrel DE-Resonator....
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:24:37 PM »
OK, who's tried it and what do you think?

 I want to know if it's hype or did you get a favorable result. For 18 bucks for a piece of rubber seems pretty steep to me...

I'm just wondering what you-all think.

I say give it a try if you can get past the butt-ugliness that some can't seem to get past.

You took my post.

I can't say, never tried one.
If it works than $18.00 is cheap.
It really is an ugly looking thing though isn't it?

PS:
I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Their recoil pads sure do work!!!

Cascadedad, Thanks for the link. So what I got from it is that it improved your groups a bit. Now that I think about it, I've seen a new factory bolt rifle outfitted with one of these. Just can't remember what brand it was. -gary

They do help in some cases. Especially with thinner barrels. In no cases that I am aware of, have they hurt accuracy.

With that said, if I can not get a rifle to shoot one way or another, it still will not wear one of those ugly things. I will trade it off and get something else to work on. That is my personal feelings. I realize that there are others that use them and are very happy with the results, looks be damned; function beats form. More power to them, it just is not for me.

My wife really liked it, but it do anything at all for my grouping.  Maybe I had it installed wrong?   ;D

So what I got from it is that it improved your groups a bit.

Sure, if you consider going from consistent 1 1/4" groups to down around 3/4" groups with factory ammo "a bit".

I talk with one of the guys at the gun counter at Sportsman's quite frequently.  When I shared with him what the de-resonator did to my groups, he said he has heard the same thing from many customers.

So has anyone tried a rubber/neoprene bushing from McMaster-Carr or other supply house?

I had a win 70 that was flinging a lot of shots to 3moa. put one of these on and dropped to near moa consistantly.  Later I rebedded gun and would stay at about 5/8 all day without the ugly bug.  but the de-resonator did help a lot more than i thought it would.

So is the ring being moved around to find a sweet spot from a standard starting point or just slide it on all the way down to the receiver? -g

Well, I did a little fiddling with my 22LR handi over the weekend. Trying some other methods to float the for-end to tighten groups. First I cleaned the latch and barrel shelf. Then I shimmed the barrel stud with a dead flat steel washer and attached the for-end. Lastly I affixed one of the shooting de resonators and slid it down 2 1/2" off the for-end.

At the range, I set a target at 50' and started shooting. I shot five fouling shots then shoot 5 rounds for group. All following pics where shot form same gun, with same ammo, (Remington Cyclone 22LR.) at the same distance, off the same rest.  ONLY change was to move the barrel de-resonator for each group. Distances are away from the for-end.

 Here is the first group. Before any adjustments;

 I added the De-resonator 2 1/2" from for-end and shot this:

Pulled it in 1 1/2":

 Finally pulled it to just about 1";

 All I can say is WOW, I put little faith in this rubber thingy. I am a believer now!!!  Guess another order to Midway is in order... ::) ::)

I still wonder what a bushing from NAPA ($1.49) would do.

And in that regard, how much effect it would have on larger bore rifle barrels?

Would you get similar results from a mass attached with a neoprene or rubber spacer inbetween it and the barrel?  (Like a rubber block between a mass of iron - or - the forend.)
